Auriga Lodge is a true nature retreat in the typical cacti covered countryside of the Dutch  Caribbean, where we spent 7 wonderful days in June. The place continuously receives winds which makes it surprisingly refreshing and in our view more comfortable than a place with air conditioning !! We really enjoyed the feeling of being far away from the crowds, close to nature : It's just complete silence and peace and quiet. Our kids (7 and 12 yrs) also really loved the freedom of exploring the land, playing with the very sweet dogs of the owners, feeding the pigs and looking at the stars at night . And not a single mosquito ! We also loved the fact the place runs on solar-power and trains you to be thoughtful about electricity and water usage . One of the best things is the bedroom upstairs with the wind flowing through and its views of this marvelously shaped tree . Very original , mostly wooden design . We really felt totally reset after our stay. Also very nice owner / manager who is knowledgeable about Bonaire's flora and fauna, and about outdoors activities,  and he was so kind to pick us up from the airport to show us the right directions. Auriga Ecolodge is a must-visit for those who prefer to explore the backcountry . We miss it ! One thing to realize : if you're over 1.90m tall, the lodge downstairs has relatively low ceilings at some places, but upstairs you're absolutely OK .

Fantastic place for outdoor lovers

We just returned from our vacation on lovely Bonaire. We spent time at three different accommodations, all of which were fine places, but the Auriga Ecolodge clearly stood out.

This is not your average hotel room or apartment - it is a fantastic experience of the island's nature and its outback, and the perfect place to calm down. We took several walks through the outback from here, including the Bara di Karta hill with its marvellous view of the island, and to the East Coast (Boka Washikemba) with its impressive surf. One of my best memories is climbing the lodge's small platform at night and gazing at the stars, while sipping a Polar :-)

Hans also offers excursions which cannot be recommended highly enough. We went caving with him, and he also took us on a marvellous kayaking tour through the mangroves at Lac. Not only does Hans know a lot about those special places on Bonaire, but he sure knows how to explain and teach.

Perfect place to calm down

We stayed at the Auriga Ecolodge for a few days to experience the non typical side of Bonaire traditionally known as the Divers' paradise.
Not only did we have a fantastic time with Hans following him on cave and kayak tours, but we also had a unique experience at the lodge in the middle of the island. 
It has all comfort and equiment you can ask for, total privacy and a lot of space!
Being in the middle of the Kunuku makes you quickly feel well tuned with the surrounding nature and environment and makes you want to take time to relax in the hammocks and observe the birds flying by.
It is easy to walk to the rough east coast of Bonaire from there, easy to reach town following the dirt road should you need to escape the comfort and tranquility of the lodge.
A place to recommend absolutely. Hans is an amazing and passionate host who can share with you the other side of Bonaire.

Something unique to experience on Bonaire

I have just returned from my stay at the Auriga ecolodge and can't wait to book my next visit. Hans is a fantastic host and has created a unique and truly amazing paradise. Pure nature, full tanquility, with stunning sunrises and sunsets. At night, the sky full of stars, something one has rarely seen before. 
The beautiful accommodation is fully run on green energy, has all necessary comfort and coziness.
And all of that not even too far from Bonaire's main attractions, but just far enough to be able to fully indulge in nature.
I 100% recommend to stay here! Enjoy!

What a stay!

This was the BEST experience! We stayed at the EcoLodge for four glorious days. It was so amazing to see the other side of Bonaire. I can't say enough about how much I respect Hans' philosophy of getting visitors to see the arid, dry, desert part of Bonaire. We had the whole lodge to ourselves. And, it was an amazing experience to think about electricity use (solar powered!), water use (enjoy, but monitor what you are using!), and to live in the rhythm of the sunrise and sunset. We particularly enjoyed the star-gazing platform. We spent dawn and dusk here, watching the iguanas, the birds, and the stars. The full kitchen is also great. And, Hans left fresh eggs from the chickens for us to enjoy. This is a really great experience.
