Perla Boneriano

We stayed at Villa Morotin (7-10 to 17-10-22) in the Perla Boneriano gated community in Bonaire and had a great time.  Nice breezes on the upper level.  The Villa was clean, comfortable and well appointed.  The property is quiet and yet conveniently located to restaurants, dive shops, etc on the north side.  About 5 to 10 minutes to downtown depending on the traffic.  Nice pool shaded by palm trees but also able to get plenty of sun if wanted.  Convenient rinse tanks for dive gear.  Spoke to several people staying in different units during the week, all seemed to be enjoying themselves.  You do have to be considerate when parking but there is plenty of space to park.  We barely knew anyone else was staying there.

4 adults stayed at Villa Chikitu of Perla Bonariano, as a dive trip.  We did arrange thru AirBnB, and were not disappointed.  There are 7 houses in this gated hamlet, 4 of which are 2 story/meaning 2 condo units. Chikitu was one of the 1 story homes and was quite big for the 4 of us.  2 bedrooms, 2.5 baths (the bathrooms were modern, roomy, and en suite for both bedrooms.)  Nice kitchen, very well appointed, big patio with chaise, charcoal grill, and table for 4.  Also table for 4 in house.  Big living area, very comfortable.  Rinse tank, outside gear locker, and drying racks were perfect.  There is a great breeze through this hamlet, so time outside is very nice during all times of the day and evening.  AC in main room and each bedroom, and ceiling fans too, and we found the ceiling fans solo were best for our needs.  Location was exceptional!  Super close to Dive Friends (dive shop we chose,) Buddy Dive, Captain Don's, and Wanna Dive.  Well situated to both ends of island.  Can't imagine staying anywhere else on Bonaire!



Stayed here for a week and really relaxed!  Villa was all they said it would be but for a little glitch (to me anyway). I like Caribbean breezes but not all the windows had screens.  But if you like air conditioning you're in luck.  Roy was very accommodating and pick us up at the airport with our INCLUDED truck! Nice having a pool right out your porch area also.  Wanted to cook a little but was hard because there wasn't even salt and pepper in the villa but we made do and gave our extra food to the neighbors!

My husband & I stayed @ Perla Boneriano, for 2 weeks in January. Located in the Hato neighborhood, you are very close to Kralendijk. Rent a car and you are close to everything. We rented Villa Chikitu, which is really a very nice vacation lodging. The pictures don't lie or oversell. In the past, we have paid less and gotten less, we have even paid more and gotten less...neither of which makes for a good vacation. Definitely 2 thumbs up for Perla Boneriano and specifically for Villa Chikitu.  We are highly recommending this property if you are looking for a nice place that is: clean, quiet, relaxing, secure, with an easy location to everything. Great snorkeling is across the street and the on-site pool is very nice to relax by when you just want to stay "close to home".

Had the pleasure of staying in the Upper Level of the Villa Makoshi in this dive resort, great accomodations, well supplied kitchen, great bathrooms, and nice porch. The only thing missing is an ocean view but you look down on the palm trees and the pool, they are super safety conscious, lots of security features, never felt worried at all, loved this place, within walking distance to restaurants, dive shops, small supermarket

If you are going to Bonaire for diving you really need to consider Perla Boneriano.  

Two couples rented Villa Chikitu and were very comfortable, each having the same size bedroom and a bath with double sink and shower. (Although we were issued plenty of towels at check in we had no wash clothes, a problem that was corrected when the unit was cleaned for the first time.)  One bedroom has a king size bed and the other a queen.  There was a large living room with flat screen TV, and a well equipped kitchen with eating area.  It opened onto a stone paved patio area that surrounded the pool and was shaded by palm trees.  Some of the other villas are second story, or one bedroom, but I'm sure they are equally comfortable for their size.

Evidence the villas are geared to divers are the rinse tanks and storage lockers most units have, as well as plenty of strong hangers and bars for allowing your wetsuit to hang  outside and dry.

All villas are enclosed in a fenced in area accessed by two electronically controlled gates for security, although crime does not seem to be a big problem on the island.  The location is within easy walking distance of several nice restaurants and even dive facilities.

Our first evening we couldn't get the TV to work and also had a problem logging on to the internet, but a call to management had someone there within minutes and both problems were resolved.

The units were clean when we arrived, and were cleaned at least twice during the week.  No one should have any reason to complain about cleanliness.  We were impressed by a three ring binder of instructions that told visitors everything they needed to know about the unit and the island.  Want the wifi password?  It's in the binder.  Don't know how to operate the remote for the air conditioning?  It's in the binder.  Wnat to know were to buy groceries, or gas, or whatever?  It's in the binder.  A very thoughtful touch I thought.

If I ever come back to Bonaire I will rent from here without checking anywhere else.  So why haven't I given it five stars?  Two reasons.  The solar heated hot water is usually cool in the mornings when you want to shower and shave.  And the hood over the range is so low you will bang your head on it if you even use it to boil water.  Whoever installed it must have sung "hi ho,  hi ho, it's off to work we go" the whole time.

If you can handle occasional lack of  hot water and wear a helmet while cooking, I think you will be very pleased with Perla Boneriano.  I know I was.

Hard to Beat

Villa Chikitu - Perla Boneriano

We expect a rental to be Clean, Quiet so we can sleep in peace, and there is someone to fix a problem. 
This villa did not meet these basic requirements.  It was not Clean, Not in good repair; Quiet hours were not respected, even on request.
We are experienced travelers, and have visited Bonaire 12 times.  Each time we stay for a month. 
We are considered good renters by owners, but our preferred rentals were unavailable for a month stay.
January 2022 was our first time to stay at Perla Boneriano, Villa Chikitu

We know what to expect in rentals in our price range up to $5000 a month because we have lived on Bonaire for almost a year, one month at a time. 
The manager Roy did not make sure the villa was fit to rent. When he opened the villa door for us on arrival, we noticed immediately that the ceiling fan did not work correctly.  It barely turned.  The ceiling lights did not work.  Roy agreed to have this fixed.  He never sent anyone.  After a week, my handy husband fixed both problems himself.
The oven was not usable; it was a fire hazard because there was an overflowing pan of rancid grease that spilled on the oven walls and bottom, and leaked out onto the kitchen floor.  We reported this as an immediate fire hazard and Roy sent a maid 2 days later to clean the mess.
There was food debris on floors, furniture, on the rug, and in cabinets.
We threw away rancid, moldy containers in the cabinet.
The house has many ants living in the walls, and they sting.  We found ants every day in the bathroom sinks and on the kitchen counters, the fridge, the desk, and also on the couch. This is a sign of an unclean house.  
The maids did not clean properly during our stay, although I tipped the women generously anyway.
They replaced the sheets on the large bed to single-bed sheets. 
The small sheets did not cover the large mattress!  It took Roy over a week to get the proper sheets for us.
Parking was a problem. Two different villa owners - one on each side - told us we could Not  park our truck next to our villa because those were ‘their’ parking spaces.  A small car could be parked at the edge of the driveway (not a designated parking space), but our truck did not fit in the small space.  So we had to negotiate with two other villa owners on where we could park.
The worst problem was that two villa owners had late-night visitors many nights and loud (drinking) parties several nights. Their visitors parked next to our villa just outside our bedroom windows, slamming doors, laughing and talking anywhere from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.  We told these owners that we go to sleep around 10 pm and asked politely for visitors to park somewhere else.  They shrugged us off.  There were several very late outdoor parties, well past midnight.  The ‘last straw’ was a night this group of drunks sang as loud as possible till 3am.  We could have called the police as the official Covid restriction was a 10 pm curfew !
It was very uncomfortable for us, as renters, to not have a parking space and to have to confront owners about late-night loud parties.  Other owners either were part of the problem or did not want to get involved.  
There were  many  other problems with maintenance: for example, sewage back up.  
We chose to tough it out, as moving would have taken time from diving and energy.
We return each year to Bonaire for a month, but never again to Perla Boneriano.
