I actually stayed here 7 years ago. I travelled with some friends but had met my now wife 2 weeks before. The hostel owners were a fantastic (German?) couple who did everything they could to take care of us. They even gave us their last steak. 5*

I’ll always remember my time here. Fantastic

We actually stayed here in September 2018 for 2 nights. The staff were rude and tried to overcharge us. The reason they got their calculations wrong was that they were all stoned! You could smell marijuana coming from a private staff common room! The hostel is in a beautiful colonial building, but the staff need to be friendlier to customers because this city is at high altitude and people already feel vulnerable with altitude sickness. We told the owner in Tarija and he promised he would do something about the staff. I hope the place has improved. There looked to be too many staff members (perhaps volunteers) hanging around in a clique, doing very little and showing a disrespectful attitude. We were also woken up at night by staff members climbing onto the roof via a ladder outside our window, apparently taking clothes up to dry them!? I only mention this now because I saw other reviews about the staff well after we were there. That said, the owner in Tarija was very friendly, and the Casa Blanca hostels in Tarija and Sucre are very good.

Rude, unfriendly staff

If I could do it again I would not go there at all anymore. One employee with a beard who is sardonic by the remarks he makes all the time. Other big problem the laundry, it is expensive and they have a problem with it. We gave our clothes in the middle of the afternoon and the day after we had to leave. The morning the clothes were not even cleaned and when we had to leave 24 after giving the clothes, it was not even dried. We had to pack all the clothes still wet. It was shameful and initially they wanted to make pay us twice the price. And when we were not happy and packing they just mocked us.

Not friendly and very frustrating

Great location, located very close to the main square and historical sites. Good value for money with very comfortable beds, hammocks in the courtyard and reasonable sized kitchen.

Only downside, the staff were not very helpful and often rude.

Good location

A location that is impossible to beat plus great staff made Casa Blanca a great place to stay in Potosi. The rooms are small but the nice common area is a good place to stay and socialise. Plus is not utterly cold like anywhere in Potosi.

Great staff, good hostel

I cannot recommend this hostel because a staff member was extremely rude to us. My friend and I had requested to be in the same room (we are young women travelling alone and felt more comfortable being together). The staff member apparently didn't see our request and then said "well it's not like you'll be sleeping in the same bed" and called us "childish" when we tried to explain our concerns in Spanish (our second language) and ask if there was anyway to be in the same room. This entire exchange took place in the common room in the hostel, and she told other staff members and guests that we were being difficult. Unfortunately, it was late and we had no choice but to stay and give them our business. I have never been treated so rudely while travelling and it honestly put a damper on our stay in Potosi and made us feel uncomfortable for our stay in the hostel.

It was such a shame because the beds were comfortable, the blankets were very warm, and the facilities were clean/stocked with toilet paper, all of which can be difficult to find in Bolivia. However, this is my first negative TripAdvisor review because I cannot recommend a hostel that employs staff that slanders and belittles young female travelers.

Terrible Experience with Staff but Nice Facilities

Building was nice, with some atmosphere. We stayed in the big 10 (or 12) people dorm, and it was fine. Bathrooms o could be much better. Breakfast was a bit confusing but with some variety. Staff was a bit sloppy on their tasks

I have to say I had a very bad experience with this place. I gave in my laundry to be cleaned for the price of 60 BOB (already more expensive than other laundry services in bolivia) which ended up costing me a lot more. They lost some expensive hiking socks (merino wool merrell and difficult to source in south america). When I asked them to search they found only one. I understand this type of thing can happen all the time in fact it has happened to me before. However, the staff were very rude offering no apology or any discount to make it right simply telling me it wasn't their fault and they couldn't care less basically. When I said that I would pay for the room and breakfast but that I shouldn't have to pay for the laundry, the lady at reception picked up the phone and told me that she was calling the tourist police. I obviously agreed to pay at that point as 60 bob is just not worth a conversation with a bolivian policeman. A bad end to a relatively ok stay.

Horribly rude staff

Pros: - great location- good equipped kitchen Cons: - really dirty (dirtiest place in South America after 6 months of travel)- confusing check-in (at first they did not want to give us the room we booked)- in the beginning they were charging us more than the price in our booking, however they agreed that we only have to pay what is stated in the confirmation

We spent two nights in the small dorms at this hostel because the private rooms were too expensive. Potosi in general is more pricy than Sucre so we couldn't find anything cheaper than 120bolivianions per couple in bunk beds. However, clean rooms and toilets/showers, hot showers, great wifi all included. Location is really central as well and they have good deals for the mines tours.
