Lion Palace Hostel

We choose this one because it is near everything in the city and you can go everywhere by foot. Tha room is very clean and the speed of the Internet service needs to be improved maybe because of the number is guests at the same time trying to access.

Amazing location

We've made a habit out of traveling sans hotel reservations. La Paz was no different. All we knew was we wanted to be around the intersection of Aves. Linares and Sagarnaga in La Paz's colonial heart near the Witches' Market and Iglesia de San Francisco. The taxi driver we took from the bus station dropped us off, and the Lion Palace was the first place we walked in to. We were a bit lazy about comparison shopping, so we took it. In retrospect, we could have done better. Much better. The rooms were passable, but the beds not the best for sleeping, and good mattresses are pretty important in a place like La Paz, which is around 12,000 feet above sea level. At altitude, sometimes sleeping is not easy. Wifi in lobby only. Breakfast terrible. We had a lot during our time in Peru and Bolivia, and this breakfast ranked among the worst. Not the cleanest place. And the showers were of the electric-power type, which can be nerve wracking having electricity that close to water, but was really mostly annoying because the power to the shower was hit-and-miss, and that meant so was the hot water. On the upside, the location is fantastic. We loved that part of La Paz. We also had a good experience with the travel agency on the first floor that seemed to be affiliated with the hotel. We decided last minute first thing in the morning to go to Tiwanaku/Puma Punku. Gylda in the travel agency worked the phone and made it happen -- on the spot. It didn't appear to be easy. She was also very nice and spoke great English.

Can't beat the location, but ...

This is a good budget hostel which is centrally located in la Paz only a stone's throw from the Witches Market. The rooms are comfortable and clean and it is a nice place to be. The showers were really temperamental though and all of our group had problems getting a hot shower which was a nightmare.  The Staff were friendly and courteous and there is wifi in the lobby. 

Fine for a night or two 

when i landed in la paz i had in my hands some addresses from the turist guide ,so i said to the taxi driver to see 2-3 of them,..all where almost destroyed..the outer view was so bad..and the taxi driver offered me a card with the name of this hotel.from outside seemed good...so i enter..no have elevator and needed to go in second floor.i checked the room before i agree and was better than the previous..the 80 Bs was ok for me .have wifi zone in the reception area and they told me that i dont had in the room..but finally i had..the only problem is that the windows that looks to the internal corridor dont secured.but is near to all the things..for food for drink,for shopping ,for everything..
the receptionist answered me -when i asked him if has private bathroom -that all the rooms of this hostal had private bathroom..and for the hot water you must wait 5 minutes until coming hot  due to the electric system of heating

It looks good with big rooms, cable TV, good beds, clean towels, but the wifi was not working, the shower was not hot and the breakfast was really poor (just ONE bread with butter and marmelade, and tea OR coffee).

The location is really good, close to the Witches Market, close to good restaurants and the tour agency on the ground floor (Fox Tours) is really nice - they are partners to the Xtreme Downhill, the best agency to the Death Road.
