This place was *really* nice.  Full of character while also being comfortable, clean and safe.  An excellent breakfast and very friendly and helpful staff.  I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

The hotel is very close to the main central area and the room was exceptional. Breakfast was really good and staff was excellent helping us with everything we needed including a taxi at 1am! I would recommend it to anyone.

Walking in I was surprised it was not slicker and could use a more recent renovation, (it was originally the Panama Embassy, years ago.)  But we grew to be very fond of this hotel and will continue to go back.  It has enormous rooms with enormous windows.  It is now surrounded by skyscrapers but is a smaller mansion.  The staff is wonderful as is the rear glass enclosed terrace.  I loved the antique furniture pieces and the small size: 8 roooms.  Mainly though it is a wonderful central location!!  Near everything.

Beautiful historic building. Wood, leather, classic old style wooden windows and doors. High ceilings, classic furniture. Hot shower with lots of water! Helpful staff. A nice step back in time.

Everything about our stay was great.  The staff are all very friendly and cared for us when we were suffering from altitude sickness!  The beds are huge and comfy, breakfast is freshly made to order and tasty.  
One thing that was quite odd was the gate outside got chained up at night, so when we first arrived the hotel didn't look open at all.  Dont let this put you off!  There is a doorbell on the inside of the gate.

I will say that it looks way better in the pictures. When you take a taxi to the place, its not obvious that you're at a hotel. Everything being kinda old is fine - I'm not a snob but heaters didn't work and the toilet didn't always flush. The people working there were pretty nice though. They were cool But the hotel is near a main thoroughfare and a really good museum but its not super obvious. Honestly, if they make a bigger sign and make some facilities upgrades, this could be a hidden gem.

Wonderful

The property is an old colonial home which years ago was the Panamanian embassy in La Paz. It has high ceilings, spacious rooms, and a colonial atmosphere. It is not comparable to a Marriot or Hilton, but it has the charm that major hotels do not have. I enjoyed the personalized service and made to order breakfasts.

My room was enormous, and the bed could have fit 4 people in it! The room had the lovely high ceilings that come with a period property, and the furniture was also antique, which I also loved. It did mean that the room was a little colder (I’m here mid winter) but there was a heater and loads of extra blankets for the bed. A hairdryer was available at Reception if you asked. Breakfast was nice and plentiful (eggs, fruit, yoghurt and bread) and they made me up a little takeaway breakfast box for the following morning when my bus was earlier than the breakfast hours. Staff were informative and also helped me arrange taxies and onward transportation.

Period property in walking distance to teleférico

We stayed at the El Consulado Hotel several times over a period of a couple of weeks. It was our base so to speak whilst we did various visits, treks and tours.

We had a very good time thanks to the help and kindness of its owner, Juan Carlos.
He really went the extra mile to ensure that our stay was great by providing advice, organising things for us like a 3-day trek, a trip to Tiwanaku, taxis to and from the airport, and looking after our luggage whilst we were away on jungle/pampa tours.  
The hotel has a lot of character with very high ceilings. The rooms are spacious with large beds and good mattresses. Hot showers too. And heating on demand.
The rooms we stayed in were on the ground floor and suffered from some noise pollution. We were disturbed by people coming and going from the hotel and from the activities of a school situated close by. Ear plugs helped a lot. I also wore an eye mask because the curtains were not black out quality.

Charming city centre gem

Stylish hotel (if you like old-school wooden quirky trims and furniture). The interior stands as it was left many years ago. Good breakfast and very helpful staff. Very large rooms and good lounge areas. Will soon need a bit of refurbishment to stay competitive.Very good and quiet location for downtown La Paz.

Colonial atmosphere in the heart of La Paz

This gem is perfectly located in the heart of La Paz. It's close to the market, and to the blue line of the Teleferico! 
The room was huge and perfectly furnished for our needs. Juan Carlos was extremely helpful and arranged a tour for us at our next destination in Uyuni! Now that's service! Also his English is great if you get tripped up on your Spanish.  
Every morning we had a wonderful breakfast that Domingo prepared. Hot coffee con leche is a must there as well. All in all a great affordable experience!
