City Hotel Thimphu

It's located about  3 mins walk off the main street. The room was huge with a desk, 2 armchairs, king size bed, wetroom (very common in Bhutan) with a good shower, tea & coffee and a room safe (rare in Bhutan). Breakfast was local dishes with some cereals and eggs to order, quite acceptable. Dinner - you have to pre-order, ideally well in advance, everything is cooked fresh to order and this situation is very common in Bhutan unless the accommodation puts on a Buffet.

The hospitality of the staff was beyond expectations and reproach. Their willingness to accommodate requests was at a level that I have never experienced at other hotels. I felt comfortable and at home.

I really enjoyed my stay here. Close to the riverside walk, and markets. There is also a nice small monastery opposite the hotel. The staff is so friendly, and the food is wonderful.

The rooms were spacious and well appointed. Hotel was well located with walking distance of the town center. Restaurant had good selection of food items.

Lovely and comfortable hotel. Food is good. It is clean . Location is best to roam around walking in leisure time. I recommend this hotel. View outside room window is mesmerizing. Pema was a staff in hotel . She took very good care of us. 

Excellent hotel in centre of Thimphu. New hotel, spacious rooms & clean hotel. Restaurant ambiance is very good. Friendly staff. Very convenient near centre of Thimphu. 
Breakfast need improvement as well as dinner options. The terrace of the restaurant is best place to relax.

Our stay at City Hotel can only be described as delightful. The rooms are very spacious, clean, and high quality. The staff is extremely helpful and courteous. We were three of us, but the arrangements for the extra person were all taken care of even before we landed in the hotel.  That location of the hotel is really good as it’s in the middle of Thimpu’s shopping area. Overall, recommend the hotel for a family stay.

Excellent place, great rooms, fantastic personnel and managers. Well located too and the rooms are great. A very good choice for staying at Thimphu. The hotel has also a typical Bhutanese style that makes the stay even more agreable.

Very centrally located hotel and accessible to all tourist spots. A very friendly front desk staff. Good rooms and a very good Wi-Fi.  This 3 star hotel but as per my travel agent Nature Wing it is  a 4 star hotel.  Food is excellent and the service is superb. Actually they were the first ones who offered us Bhutanese dish Ema Datshi. Apart from the Bhutanese fish, Indian and Continental food was also available.  Ema Datdhi is made from chillis and cheese.  The Kitchen staff need special mention for taking care of the interests of each guest.

High quality accommodation

CityHotel is a nice place to stay with very helpful staff and a great location. The rooms are large and comfortable and you are right in the middle of the city and can walk anywhere. There was not a frig in our room which was no big deal but might be to others. We had a very large balcony where one can sit out if the weather is nice. The reception staff is very helpful with suggestions and accommodating your needs. Special mention to Sangay who helped us with so many things (car/driver etc) that I am not sure her title. She was terrifically helpful. If you want luxury it is certainly there in Thimphu but you will have to pay 3-4 times as much. CityHotel gets the job done for a reasonable price and great service.

Nice place in a great location

This was my first night stay in Bhutan. Service is friendly and it’s a beautiful hotel. The room and bathroom are very spacious though the furniture are a little dated. Some of the wall sockets aren’t working and there’s no USB port for charging. A space heater is provided (no wall heater). Bed was comfortable and I slept really well.

As there was construction going on next door, there’s a fair bit of noise that goes on until late evening. Other than that, the hotel is very quiet and during my one night stay I only ever saw another guest. And while I did hear barking dogs at night, it was quite distant and didn’t bother me.

The Farmers Market is only a short walk from the hotel. Breakfast is provided in the restaurant and they also serve lunch at dinner with Bhutanese and Indian cuisine.

Lovely stay in Thimphu

Our room was HUGE and came with a kitchen (including a fridge and microwave) which was a wonderful surprise! It also had a great view. The only problem was, it was cold in the room with no way to adjust the temperature. We called the front desk for help and they weren't able to adjust it either, so they were kind enough to bring a large space heater. It was a good solution till we moved the space heater from the living room to the bedroom, which caused the power to shut down for the whole room. But the staff were quick to help, and they got the power back on shortly. One other thing to be aware of, which is not the hotel's fault, was that it was very loud outside...lots of loud partying just across the street...like a club or rave, even though it was a Sunday night. And when we were trying to fall asleep, there were loud catfight noises that lasted around an hour. We later learned this was common. Again, not the hotel's fault of course, but if you're looking for peace and quiet, you may not find it here. But the enormous size of the room and kind staff made up for it.

Everything was good about the property, specially the staff was very courteous and helpful. However, two improvements are needed.1. Breakfast timings should be upto 10 am and dinner timings upto 10.30 pm.2. Bar upgradation is required in terms of variety. On one occasion only 2 choices of whiskey was available. Need to stock much more varieties, as Indians love whiskey.

Hotel in the heart of Thimphu

My wife and I are spending 5 months in Bhutan as part of an academic exchange program. Consequently, we have some experience living and traveling in this beautiful country. We recently spent a few days in Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital city. City Hotel provided the comfort, privacy, convenience, and professional service we need at a modest (by Western standards) price. The room was spacious, nicely furnished, and quiet. The restaurant was pleasant and the food delicious, with its “spiciness” calibrated to Western tastes. And in every interaction with hotel staff, we were treated with the greatest respect and appreciation.

Just what we needed

A very new property in the heart of Thimpu, centrally located with quick access to main tourist points. Quick check-in, friendly front office staff, very spacious rooms, free WiFi, fairly quick room service, very satisfying menu for breakfast and dinner made for a very satisfying stay . Definitely recommend.

Modern hotel

The hotel staff is very well behaved and nice. They will always try to accommodate all requests. One of the best hotels in Thimpu. 

My room is very spacious and it includes all the modern facilities such as Hairdryer, Safe, 24 hours hot water, Room Heater, 43-inch LCD TV, Good wifi Connection.

The room is also very neat and clean. The view from the room is superb. Totally recommend this hotel to my friends and family.
