I am not a beach person at all, but i thought it would be nice on my trip along the coast of West Africa to spend a nice somewhere just relaxing by the sea. the Auberge was perfect. The setting is lovely. Lots of places to relax by the sea. There is a good restaurant and bar for spending the evening. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is a nice little pool.
I stayed in one of the rooms in the big house. It was rustic, but clean and comfortable. I was on the 2nd floor and loved having the wide balcony entrance with great sea breezes. You have to bring your own soap etc, but i had so that was not an issue. The wifi was hit and miss but I was still able to connect.
I would stay there again.

Wonderful place for a beach retreat

We chose Grand-Popo because we wanted to go somewhere completely different! We succeeded there. 

I reached out to Auberge and everything seemed to be going well, despite the language barrier (They speak French). 

The environment is nice and the ambience was peaceful. But, a number of things made Auberge a not-so-great-experience for me;
- The hotel room was not what I expected at all. Especially after I called to ask for some changes to be made. Worse still, when it was time to pay, I found out we were charged more than what was initially stated as the price for the room. (long story)
- There. Is. No. Hot. Water. If you want some, you have to walk all the way to the reception to make a request.
- The menu at the restaurant can be improved.
- They don't accept dollars. (Lol, "what??", right?) We had to make a long, arduous bike trip to and from the Lome border to try to convert to Euros or the local currency. It was mad.

However, some highlights that bring it up to its "Average" rating.
- The beach is lovely
- The staff were helpful, for the most part. (Except the one night the kitchen staff were being just plain horrible. Another long story)
- They had a nice New Year's dinner and bonfire package. (At a cost, of course)

The improvable hotel experience aside, the trip to Grand-Popo has a fond place in our hearts.

The beach was the highlight.

We used their camping facilities. The camp area is right on the beach. The downside is the bathrooms are across the street and this was somewhat far at night and didn't feel particularly safe at night. Do not leave anything valuable in your tent, as locals did come into our camp site and took some things from some of our friends. The restaurant was expensive but was one of the best meals of the trip. There is also a nice pool.

A nice campsite

The hotel is an old colonial building. It is very nice, the location on the beach is nice. The food is good and the staff is very friendly. I enjoyed my stay there. The rooms upstairs are the best, as you can have the sea breeze.

A very nice place

Staff gave us a friendly welcome. We started with a good lunch! Good food

We rented a seaside bungalow for the weekend. Please do not expect the bungalow to be on the beach but on a short walk to the beach. The beach is clean!

Room is clean but basic. The bed is like a plank. The bathroom is very basic. No hot water. No internet, we were lucky to bring our own mobile internet. 
A mosquito net was provided. The room had a nice small veranda.

Breakfast was not included but was low priced. They can provide a nice fresh fruit salad.

A good place to go for good and quiet weekend.

The place is visited by people from Cotonou for a lunch with a view.



Basic hotel located near the sea 

Located right on a lovely stretch of practically deserted coastline, Auberge is a relaxing place to stay. The restaurant offers a good selection of food. The larger breakfast (3,800CFA) comes with various bread choices, tea or coffee, fresh juice, fresh fruit and an omelette with ham and cheese. The staff were very flexible though and other orders were fine. The food was, on the whole, very nice.

There are a few deckchairs and loungers on the beach but there's not too many. This is good as it gives the stretch of coast a much more untouched feel. The swimming pool is small but clean and the gardens are generally well maintained.

The staff were all wonderful. Friendly, efficient service all round. 

The rooms were a bit of a mixed bag. The first night we were in the slightly more expensive rooms overlooking the sea (24000CFA (ish)). These rooms were nice although had no air con and the ceiling fan was pretty feeble. This meant a rather warm night. The water pressure on the shower was poor but other than that, a pleasant room.

The slightly cheaper room (20000CFA ish)) overlooks the garden at the back. This room did have AC and much better water pressure in the shower. My room did have a small infestation of quite large ants but it was nothing too horrific. 

Despite the, very small, issues with the rooms this was a lovely spot with good, friendly staff and great food. These are the things I look for in accomodation so I was very happy - recommended!

Excellent location and food very good

This place is well situated next to the Beach and a nice place to relax after a trip in the interior. Unfortunately the waves are very strong and there could be current, so it is not safe to swim in the sea. There is however a small swimming pool. The rooms are outdated and not luxurious.  Most have sea views. The room upstairs face water supply problems. The restaurant has a good selection of French cuisine dishes. We would have liked to stay longer.
