Excellent diving on the Whitconcert. A new 350 ft wreck, which is beginning to attract large fish. This a wonderful addition to their house reef. Most of the dive sites were with in 5- 6 minutes of the resort. Captain Geo and our divemaster Elron were wonderful. We enjoyed the Blue Hole, Half Moon Wall and Aquarium with sightings of white tip sharks and eagle rays. The resort staff were amazing. Their were always will to provide support. The  drinks and food were great. Truly a 5 star experience. 

Best  Diving in Belize with 5 Star Resort Experience 

Overall, we were disappointed. We went to Turneffe for the diving and to dive the atoll which is billed on the resort website as "untouched, unspoiled, unbelievable" and "some of the world’s greatest seascapes". What we found is significantly bleached coral and sparse wildlife. We found most of the diving to be mediocre, with some sites (such as "the Elbow") barely having any fish at all. Our pre-paid package was supposed to include 18 dives, including one night dive. One afternoon dive was cancelled and the night dive scheduled for Wednesday was cancelled with no offer of reschedule or reimbursement for either one. Everyone, on our boat including us, dived using Nitrox, but almost none of the cylinders were marked...The industry standard for tanks filled with Nitrox is to mark the tank with a tank wrap, as well as identify the mixture with a label or tag (and this is a PADI 5 star facility?).
The boat transfer bringing us to the resort on arrival day broke down leaving us floating in the ocean for about a half an hour while they repaired the engine, making the total ride to the island 3 hours. The crew told us the boat had the same problem the day before, so this was a known problem.
The cabana: The resort website states all residences were "recently renovated" but our cabana  was definitely showing its age and had a few problems. The resort was only half full, so this is the unit they chose to give us. The unit was a nice size, A/C worked well and the bed was comfortable. They told us at check-in that the toilets use salt water to flush and you have to "hold the handle down" to get a complete flush but we found the toilet took at least 3 flushes to clear, and due to low water pressure slowing the tank refill, took 15 minutes total per use. The floor had soft, spongy spots and the entry door was difficult to open / close and the latch was repaired with a block of unpainted wood. All of the window blinds were stuck in the full closed position. Plenty of hot water.
The pool was cloudy / green for the entire first day, although it did clear up through the week.
The WiFi only worked in the Dining Room, despite management assurances that it also worked in the Palapa Bar and the Pool, area. We understood there would be no WiFi in our room.
The staff was friendly and attentive.
The food was generally good and plentiful. The mixed drinks were weak and expensive and they served us gin and tonics with soda water instead because they had no actual tonic water.
Overall, not worth the cost premium for this location.

Disappointed....

Our trip to Blackbird Caye was exceptional!  The accommodations were perfect.  Super comfortable beds, linens, towels.  The shower-bathroom was luxurious and so welcome after a full day of scuba diving.  Our dining experience left us full and satisfied:   so much food which was beautifully prepared and presented.  The views from all aspects of the property are worthy of a postcard!  

Can't wait to go back to Blackbird Caye Resort

This resort is amazing! It is secluded and off the beaten path and absolutely stunning. The staff is superb and very attentive. The food was fantastic and presented nicely. The dive staff is excellent and the diving even better. This is truly a resort to relax and enjoy without technology and daily demands. Blackbird Caye is one of the most enjoyable resorts I have visited.  

Fantastic Resort

10/10 all around! The diving, the accommodations, the staff, and certainly the food!! I book all of our travels based on reviews, so I always write a fair and honest review. Our stay at Blackbird Caye Resort was a dream! The staff is amazing- they went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. The location is remote (a nearly 2 hour boat ride from Belize City on a beautiful new dive boat). That was part of the fun! You are at the "mercy" of the other guests who happen to book the same week. Boy did we luck out. We had a great group of travelers the same week. Our accommodation (one of the newer Villas) was 5 Star!! The housekeeping staff did an incredible job each day, going above and beyond to make it perfect. I want to give a special shout out to the boat crew who kept us safe and worked their tails off for many hours each day- Brian and Geo. We still think you should have a wheelbarrow to cart the tanks back and forth! You will be spoiled by an incredible kitchen staff, including Kurt and Jose, who will take care of your every need. The chef, sous chef and head baker could be at any 5 Star restaurant in the states. The food is truly that good! And plenty of it. 
Every day was simply perfect and it will always be one of our favorite adventures! 


Amazing! 10/10

In a word, this dive vacation at BLACKBIRD CAYE RESORT was WONDERFUL!!! We made 14 dives while at the Blackbird Caye Resort...and everyone of them memorable. The folks who run the place, Serena and Shaddy do a magnificent job from managing the resort as well as the dive facilities and dive staff. Our dive master, Raul and Boat Captain Gio were outstanding in briefing us on each dive, getting us promptly to all dive locations, ensuring the safety of each diver and for my Wonderful Lovely Wife and me (both over 75), making sure both of us were comfortable getting into and out of the sea and through our dive. The dives themselves were OUTSTANDING with excellent visibility, loads of reef fish, turtles, rays and sharks. My wife and I have been diving since '06 and have been fortunate enough to dive in a number of places all over the world. Turneffe Atoll's waters may BE SOME OF THE BEST DIVING WE'VE ENCOUNTERED since our initial certification. These waters we dove may  have some of the healthiest coral we've encountered in years as well as the abundance of underwater wildlife. Again, every dive we make (14 in all) were OUTSTANDING.  
Besides the excellent dive master Raul and Captain Gio, Serena (a PADI director we believe) taught and trained our Son and his fiancee for advance open water certification. She did an EXCELLENT job in getting these kids AOW certified in a well controlled and efficient matter. Again, she took the time and made every effort to ensure Matt and Felicia were well trained to qualify for their AOW certification test.
Will we go back? ABSOLUTELY! The diving was GREAT; the food and refreshment Great; the rooms and their cleaness were Great; and most importantly, the Resort and Dive Staffs and Management were....and I'll say it again....WONDERFUL & OUTSTANDING! Thank you, Roger

REVIEW OF BLACKBIRD CAYE RESORT ON TURNEFFE ATOLL-BELIZE

Absolutely wonderful week. The staff is outstanding, attentive, and love what they do and it shows. The food was incredible and the diving was the best. Second time at Blackbird and hope to be back again!

From the moment you arrive on the island their mission is to spoil you. Don't bother bringing shoes because you won't need them, walking bare foot on the soft sand for the entire stay. If you are a diver be prepared for luxury diving. The dive crew led by Elroy Elvis puts safety first and then their goal is to take all the work out and the joy of diving in. The crew moves your gear between dives, hangs your wetsuit to dry and absolutely spoils you the entire trip. They even put your fins on and take them off for all 18-19 dives. Be prepared to have nurse sharks follow you during dives close enough to pet them. You also may be able to pet a large but lovable Grouper that often greets dive teams. The food is second to none. Managed by Curt and his lovable dog, Perry, the food is a real treat. Executive Chef, Elvis, amazes with the menu and bold flavors with sauces and food presentation that is amazing. Also, if you have the chance, the on island massage therapist is amazing!  Our island managers Serena and Shoddy were amazing hosts and equally skilled dive instructors. The whole staff became friends by the end of the stay. I can't wait to go back.

Luxury Diving From A Private Island Oasis With Staff That Become Friends

If you love to dive, five star dining, and the best all around care, you wil love Blackbird Caye Resort. My husband and I experiencesd a week at Blackbird Caye with a dive group mid May. We've been on many dive trips, We were so impressed with the TLC diving experience. Dive sites are (at most) 5 minutes from the shore. The divemaster and staff literally do everything for you (if you want them to). From cleaning your gear after your dive, helping with your equipment entering and exiciting the water, washing your mask (if you need it) and taking care underwater to make sure you are safe and enjoying your dives. Now to the food. Wow! So delicious, variety, options, presentation, just incredible. And, the staff, so friendly and kind. Blackbird Caye is a remote island on the south end of Belize so diving and relaxing are the key focuses. I don't often write reviews but they deserve an enormous amount of credit for providing such a fabulous experience. We will go back!

Excellent and personalized service and better diving!! A resort by, and for, divers!  Great accommodations and a place that is a definite “must return” location!  My friends and I enjoyed a week of memorable dives…including a hammerhead shark!!!
