Mountain Pine Ridge

Lower Dover is a treasure in the jungle you cannot miss. The property and the beautiful wood houses have access to a river in the middle of the jungle and , last but not least, in the property you can visit a maya ruin which is amazing!! It feels like being in an Indians Jones movie for real, for me it was emotional to walk around these uncovered ruins in the middle of a luxury jungle. Magdalena is a fantastic host, I loved her kindness, her amazing stories, her dinner and healthy breakfast, I think she is great. Thanks to her we were able to visit ATM early in the morning avoiding all the many tourists that visit it every day. So Thank you Magdalena!! We highly recommend to stay in this beautiful relaxing place immerse in the nature!! Chiara, Antonio and Henry from Italy.

Amazing!

This place is the absolute cutest!  Maddy was the best hostess and was so friendly and inviting. She booked our tour for us as well. The rooms are adorable and comfortable. The showers are honestly my favorite. Very clean, and better than I expected. Maddie Belize breakfast was amazing as well.

Best Hostel

We stayed on this property for 4 nights and then extended it for another week we loved it so much. Mostly because Maddy the owner and host is incredible - SHe is a fabulous host who caters for every need. 
The bat house was a lovely large room with a comfy queen bed, lovely cotton linen  and a single bed, desk and chairs as well as a basin and toilet ensuite.
There is also a balcony with two chairs to lounge on - all being enclosed by mozzie mesh. you can shower in your private shower downstairs or use the communal showers a few steps away. 
Aircon for that room is optional and charged for so be sure to factor that into your costs.
Dinner and breakfast was a special treat and VERY healthy!! Maddy pays attention to nutrition and made sure we got well balanced good food. 
The surrounding areas is what makes it so special - river runs around a large portion of the property where you can go for lovely walks in the forest and swim in the river. 
The property also have several ruins - ask Maddy to take you on a tour or simply go explore yourself. - its totally free 
My husband and I will definitely be back for our health fix and rest at Lower Dover

Came here some time ago - decided to return to Belize with friends and came back.

The place is still great - multiple sleeping cabin options on this large property. Hosts Madeline and Bill are still great - personable, helpful and made our stay great yet again.

Hopefully will return in the future - highly recommend.

Came back for another stay

Not what I expected at all! It was better!! Had the property all to myself which was nice. There’s some trails you can walk, spots to jump in and cool off along the trail. There’s even some ruins that are in site!! Maddie, the host, was awesome. Cooked dinner and breakfast for me everyday, small few, worth it. You’re not really close to San Ignacio, short bus ride.  Maddie is a wealth of information about the ruins and pretty much anything Belize you need to know. 10/10 - will stay here again!!

Mady is an amazing Hostel Hostess. She takes care of you like you’ve known each other for decades. The rooms (we had private accommodations) are beautifully rustic with jungle charm. Her meals are fantastic and served at a table where you’re garanteed to make new friends. Thank you for the amazing experience!

Absolutely Great

I stayed in Lower Dover for four nights and it was amazing! The property has lovely hiking trails and comfy bed and warm showers. Maddie is so sweet and the meals they will cook for you are delicious! They also helped us book our tours which was very helpful! I would definitely recommend staying here as a part of your journey.

We thoroughly enjoyed our four-night stay at Lower Dover, and feel we couldn't have picked a better place from which to experience inland Belize. Our cabin was clean, quaint, and in great condition. The meals were nutritious and filling, and gave us a chance to get to know other travelers, as well as the hostel's owner, Maddy. The hostel's setting in the midst of a small farm, jungle, ruins, and river was extremely pleasant. Maddy really made all the difference, with her relaxed, friendly attitude, her willingness to answer a multitude of questions beforehand, and her help in setting up local tours and drivers. We greatly enjoyed a trip to the ATM cave (the hostel's proximity allowed us to be one of the first groups in that morning) and to Tikal, both arranged by Maddy. After we left Lower Dover, we visited a very posh coastal resort, but Lower Dover is the place that most sticks in our mind, and the place we'd be most likely to visit again. Thanks, Maddy, for providing us with such a wonderful experience!

Extended Holiday Vacation

I have stayed at the Lower Dover hostel several times.   I am an entomologist and this property has a wonderful diversity of insects and a nice stretch of forest with several different aquatic, forest, and meadow habitats.   The variety of herps in this area always excites me and invites me back.   The hostels are clean and charming, and the host is very knowledgeable about the area and very helpful and accommodating.  The ruins on the property are amazing and thought-provoking to walk through.   The hostel is in close proximity to many larger archaeological sites and other habitats.
