Gabi, the owner of D'Nest, met us at the airport.  We stayed one night there before moving on to other locations in Belize.  Our room was very comfortable and in a quiet neighborhood. We were within easy walking distance to restuarants and another business (Digi) to get a sim card for our phone. The breakfast served by OT, his wife, was excellent, and she gave us a tour of her garden, her passion. Before taking us back to the airport to pick up our rental car, Gabi had lunch with us and gave us a lot of background info on Belize.  We enjoyed our stay with them very much!

Gabby picked us up at the airport.. he was on time.. arrived very sick with the flu
Oty took very good care of me .. even ran out to pick up some medication

Visit February 17,2020

One night stay upon arrival in Belize City. Not what we were expecting. Not clean. Good breakfast though and Mark drove us to Placentia. For $250USD.
We walked to the waterfront and had a few runs drinks at a thatched roof bar with an amazing view. Leslie was very welcoming. I think the place was called Belroyal or something like that.

Friendly hosts but dated accommodations

Stayed here for one night as I had to wait one day before catching a connecting flight.  About a 5 minute drive to the airport. There is a charge for airport pickup and drop off and it is consistent with what you would pay for a local taxi. I was the only guest so I was able to have an early checkin and late check out.  Booked a tour to Altun Ha with the owner and also a city tour by car to pass the day.  He is very knowledgeable and speaks excellent English.  You will have to negotiate a price for the tours. Slept in a comfortable king size bed with an ensuite.  There is a park across the street and that night there was music blaring until midnight when the din thankfully stopped.  Breakfast served in the morning.  Eggs with chorizo in a tomato sauce, toast, fresh fruit, and coffee. Place run by a very friendly and pleasant couple.  Location is in a residential area so not within walking distance to the City core.  Would definable stay here again if I  need to be close to the airport.

Nice small B&B

It was a comedy of errors, but we weren't laughing.  They forgot to clean up the room from the last guest, made the bed without even changing the sheets, didn't clean the sink, the rug was filthy, etc.  the dog then pooped in the hallway, the breakfast was barely adequate but by then we were just ready to get out of there.  thank god we didn't have to stay another night.  i don't want to get personal, she's a nice lady.  she gave us a discount, maybe she was just having a bad couple of days.  i wouldn't recommend it.  everything is so expensive in Belize.  if she had made up the room and we didn't' have to wait 2 hrs for it i might consider staying there again.

We booked D'Nest (Hummingbird Nest) because of the reviews on TripAdvisor and because the price seemed fair.  We knew it was not downtown and our driver had no trouble finding the place (my husband used the GPS on his phone to guide him).  I had emailed the B&B to let them know what time we were arriving and we were almost exactly on time.  Oty greeted us warmly and proceeded to show us our room but gave us the wrong keys (we found out much later when we tried to get into our room after spending the afternoon out walking). She also kindly brought us a half filled (!) jug of cold water to drink which was appreciated as it was very hot.  That was where the positives ended.  The bed was comfortable enough and the room spacious but the bathroom was outdated and not very clean.  In addition there were absolutely no amenities other than toilet paper (which was in a huge industrial dispenser, completely weird in a 60s decorated bathroom); no soap (there was a dirty old soap dispenser - the kind you see in public toilets, but it was empty), no shampoo, no nothing!  As we were only staying the night we didn't have anything but our toothbrushes and toothpaste available to us so it was frustrating to have to unpack some shampoo just so we could wash!
When asked where we could get a bite to eat nearby, Oty pointed in a vague direction towards the sea and gave us the name of a restaurant which we went to.  There were also vague directions for a bus into town, but we ended up walking to a main road and flagging down a taxi.  When we returned later in the afternoon, and couldn't access our room, we asked a gentleman who seemed to be staying/working there for assistance.  We discovered we had been given the wrong keys by Oty!  No apologies or anything said.  The tv had a fuzzy screen so we gave up watching that and just read our books until we went to bed.
The 'garden' is untidy and full of mosquitoes due to the stagnant creek that runs beside the house so no joy there.
Breakfast the next morning was adequate - at no point was any attempt made to ask us what we'd like (every BnB that we've ever stayed at has either had a buffet or a menu or we were personally asked what we wanted/didn't want); it started with us saying we didn't drink coffee or tea but would like a glass of water (which we never received).  We were then presented with a plate of cut up fruit which was good.  Also a glass of some rice milk concoction which I drank but my husband didn't like and asked again for a glass of water which he didn't receive.  We then had a plate of cooked items; some sort of eggs concoction, a piece of 'fake' ham and beans.  I don't remember if we were offered toast.  It was not very appetising or interesting but we ate it because we were hungry and didn't want to be impolite.  We wanted to ask Gaby or Oty to help us get a taxi into town but sat in the lounge area for 20 minutes while Gaby was on the phone until we finally decided just to walk! We then headed off into town to see the museum and walk around.  We had asked if we could stay in the room until we were due to head to the airport (at 2pm) but Gaby said that the room was booked and that he didn't know when the guests were due to arrive.  So we made an effort to pack our bags and leave them in the dining room while we went out.  When we came back, we were hot and sweaty and would have liked to have had a shower or at least a sponge bath before we changed into our clothes for the airport.  Oty finally came out and basically sat in the lounge on her phone while we changed - never offered us a cold glass of water or even spoke to us unless asked something.  We couldn't wait to get out of there!  We had very little to no conversation with the owners, they were not particularly helpful with advice on places to visit or how to get there and the house is becoming very run down.  I finally asked if I could use their toilet before we left for the airport and was allowed to do so.  I am not sure what went wrong with our stay but would not stay here again.  I think that it's too far from downtown to be useful and too far from the airport to be of value.  Look elsewhere.

Mixed feelings

Gaby and Oty were incredibly friendly and welcoming at check in to D’Nest Inn- it is close to the airport but the last house on a dead end road outside of downtown where it’s quiet and safe. Our room was big and had its own entrance. Breakfast was wonderful, especially because of the interesting and warm conversation with Gaby and Oty about life in Belize- every recommendation was great and they added so much to our experience for the two days near Belize City on the mainland before heading to the islands.

Thankful for our stay at D’Nest Inn

We stayed at D'Nest for 2 nights. The place was in residential area nit far from BZE. It was quiet and safe. We were able to walk around in the evening to dinner and some light shopping. Gabe we're knowledgeable and very willing to share. Oty cooked up great breakfast in the morning. We were able to have Gabe gave us a tour of Belize City which was great. We would definitely stay at their place again.

Quiet safe area , the interior is very charming with an old world feel, and the owners are very friendly and will even come and sit with you and chat if you’re available as well as drive you into town if needed.

Lovely place to stay in the city

Gabe and his wife are so kind and friendly. Their garden is everything!!! I needed to stay one night in belize and picked this spot because I did not want to be in downtown but also wanted to be close enough to get transportation in and out. It was a perfect call! Area is totally safe. I am a female solo traveller and not once I felt insecure. I had the best time discussing anthropology and history of human civilisation with Gabe in the garden at the end of the day. It’s a perfect spot to unwind  and relax before going forward or out of Belize.
