Lodge The City Jester

Arrived here, after cancelling another hotel that was miles from menin gate, drove round Ypres and checked in from half five, the late check In allowed us to be able to have a drink in a cute bar/bistro which was feet away from the menin gate thus allowing a perfect pic opportunity for myself a keen traveller and photo taker! When we arrived my husband checked us in and I scouted the place for parking, we found a bay directly outside and it was free until 0900 the next morning, the access to the rooms is via the back entrance which is very quaint and cute as well as very well kept, the cast iron stairs give he Garden a very modern yet traditional off set. The bathroom we had been allocated was in my opinion fantastic given I stayed in an Ibis In france the night before!! And the bathroom was bigger and nicer than my own (I'm military and my own washing area is basic) the shower was so nice, hot and powerful I could of stayed in a lot longer than I had, had we not had prior engagements ( the last post) Our room was warm, clean and immaculately tidy, we were provided with a kettle and a selection of teas as well as a fridge should anyone wish to bring wines or beers there is equipment provided to keep them cool! The bed we slept on was comfortable, it even put the thought into my husbands and my own mind that perhaps we need to make a trip to dreams and get a new mattress? I slept fantastically- so no complaints there really Breakfast- fantastic selection, you have to go back down the cast iron stairs and round the front entrance but you walk into a beautifully laid out room, where the tables are set and a lovely fire is going, it' really sets the ambience, there is a great selection of continental breakfast- including meats, jams, rolls, soft and hard boiled eggs to order, granola, fruit bowls and yogurts and cheeses, teas, coffees and fresh squeezed orange juice, I couldn't really ask for more from the owners of this establishment it really was a great stay - oh and for those that complained there was no internet... yes there is! There is also mobile numbers if you need to contact the owners who answer and are always willing to meet your needs and requests whatever they may be
