La Pommeraie

Our group of four friends from the U.S. recently hiked the Escapardenne-Eisleck trail and continued down to Bastogne. We had the pleasure of staying here while in Sprimont at Dennis’s fantastic B&B. He was very helpful in helping planning the continuation of our hike. Very knowledgeable. Highly recommended!

We stayed at La Pommeraie twice while I was working in the area. So while we did not do a lot of sightseeing, we did enough driving around to be charmed by the beauty of the whole area. Great for walking, visit small villages, go to Fourneau Saint Michel museum or the country fair of Libramont in July. We first stayed in the family room, which is comfy and spacious, then in the studio, which was great because it has a fridge, a kettle and a hotplate. No coffeemaker, though. (But you get a big fresh pot of coffee for breakfast) It was extremely quiet. The garden is big and wonderful, with lots of flowers, a hammock, a kinda small merry go round. My daughter loved to feed the sheep and chicken that were in the back. Continental breakfast was quite filling, with fresh bread, cheese, local ham, organic sirop de Liege, homemade jams, chocolate, some days we had croissants, some others homemade cake or "cramique" (a sweet bread with raisins). The owners are lovely. We unfortunately did not have the chance to try the "table d'hote" (dinner). We hope to be able to go back for leisure this time!

Everything perfect for the type of logement. I had a large room, nice view, small wc-room, small bathroom. But everything nice and neet. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast more than ok. Thanks for the nice stay. A lot to do in the neigbourhood. Did the old-car route and it was very nice to discover things you otherwise never find. Flyer I became there.

My partner and I were doing the Transardennaise walk and our contact owned the above establishment.

It is located at the end of a day's walk in a very quiet, rural setting. There are no shops, but if walking in fields and forests is your thing, then this walk and location should keep you happy. Our instructions were translated into English (and very well too) but if you speak French, then much more information is available for you to increase your enjoyment of walking in the region.

Our room was large, quiet, and comfortable. There is a pleasant outdoor garden area where you could relax and meals are eaten with your hosts and perhaps one or two other couples or small groups. The meals were basic but healthy, and we enjoyed them. I would suggest that if you enjoy pastries, chocolates, or other such produce that you consider the towns of La Roche en Ardenne or St Hubert (days 1 and 3 of our walk) where shops and supermarkets are easy to find.

Overall, my partner and I were happy to have chosen this walk and a visit to Belgium. Our research was undertaken with Europ Aventure who assisted us greatly in our planning.

La Pommeraie Sainte Ode B&B

Cozy b&b - great quiet location but close enough to small towns

Very rural and quiet

My wife and I arranged a 4  day trans ardennaise walk through Denis, owner of La Pommeraie. He picked us up from the station and equipped us with the map and contact details for the walk.
The b&b is a sweet little farmhouse with a couple of acres, some chickens and sheep. There is a nice garden behind. Our room was large and comfortable. The bathroom is not an ensuite but a short walk across the hall(watch the very low doorways).
Dinner was a simple home cooked affair of basic schnitzel and veg. Again breakfast was simple and no fuss. After breakfast Denis sent us on our way.
Things to watch out for:
1) Denis offered to book our return rail fare and said this would cost €30 each. Corresponding from Australia we understood from his limited English that this was the train fare. It turned out to be his service Fee. I.e €60 to spend 5 mins online booking tickets! If this was clear we would have booked them ourselves along with all our other train tickets.
2) this was our first day of walking and we paid Denis for a packed lunch. I enquired about quality of water along the way and was advised not to drink the river water, but Denis assured me he would provide water. We ended up with 500ml each for a 24 km walk in 30 degrees celcius heat. This was a very uncomfortable day for us. 
3) Denis provided a hand sketch map to find the home of the person to transport us to our second nights accommodation. The map bore absolutely no resemblance to features on the ground and his description did not match landmarks.
4) my wife was injured during the walk and could not continue. Denis gave very little support, simply arranging for 1 auberge owner to dump her in Redu in the morning and the next to pick her up late that afternoon. She was not happy with this as virtually everything in Redu was closed so she sat in town for 7 hours waiting for her lift. All she wanted was to be dropped off at the next auberge.
