B&B Engelen aan de Waterkant

Excellent place to stay for a night or longer in Gent. Really nicely restored - take a look at the 'marble' in the hallway - with excellent breakfast and friendly hosts. Short walk into Gent centre, which compares well with Bruges, but fewer tourists.

We have just spent an excellent four nights at this wonderful b&b.  It's a pleasant 15 minute walk along the river into the centre, so it's in a quiet part of town.  
It's a glorious old townhouse which has been beautifully fitted out by the owners Ann and Tony. We had the suite on the first floor which consisted of a huge bedroom with a most comfortable large bed overlooking the river with a small balcony.  There was a sitting room, which could obviously sleep another person, at the back of the house.  The beautiful bathroom was a few steps down with a lovely red roll top bath. It was also the little extras that made it so special.  There were sweets and cakes left with the tea and coffee, which were replenished through out our stay.
Breakfast was served in Ann and Tony's kitchen/dining room and was excellent. Freshly squeezed orange juice, yoghurt with fruit, pastries, bread with cheese, ham and preserves or you could have eggs cooked if you wanted them.  Everything was so fresh.
There are a lot of good restaurants nearby.
Unfortunately, I wasn't well as we were leaving for Brugge but Ann and Tony came to our rescue.  We can't thank them enough for their concern and kindness.  
If you're going to Ghent for business or leisure this is certainly the place to stay.

We had two wonderful nights at Ann's perfect B&B. It is even more romantic and beautiful than in the pictures. Spotlessly clean. Delicious breakfast of coffee, tea, juice,
cheeses, meats, fruits, yogurt and pastries. Ann really went above and beyond with help.
We couldn't have asked for more. We would love to go back again and again and again.

We have traveled throughout Europe and have stayed in many hotels and B&Bs, and Engelen Aan De WaterKant is truly one of the best.  We stayed in Suite 1 and could not have been happier.  It was absolutely immaculate!  We had a little balcony that overlooked the canal, an extremely large bedroom (larger than our bedroom in Texas), and a lovely sitting room equipped with tea and coffee maker, a small fridge, and Ann, the owner, even had a box of chocolates waiting for us in the room upon arrival.  Ann's taste is exquisite.  Her choice of decor is beautiful.  The breakfasts she served were also fantastic—your choice of eggs, an array of meats, cheeses, fruits, breads, and always a special treat to finish the meal, plus coffee, tea, and fresh squeezed orange juice.  Ann and her husband truly went out of their way on several occasions to help us when they really didn't have to, and thus as hosts, go above and beyond.  They are wonderfully located—just a short walk to the historic center, and just a few blocks from the museums.  I cannot recommend this Bed & Breakfast highly enough.  It was truly a wonderful experience and a highlight of our trip.  We can't wait to stay here again.

This place- newly redecorated, and pristine- is immaculate.  The colour scheme is white in the large two room suite, and I felt like I'd sullied it by my very presence.  Ann Willems, the proprietor was very welcoming, and insisted on helping me upstairs with my luggage.  She was apologetic about the lack of air conditioning, and gave us free rein on the delights of the mini bar to compensate.  We were too polite to hoover up the champagne, still wine and beer, sticking to a couple of bottles of water.  We don't have air conditioning at home, and it would have been criminal to take advantage of our charming hostess.  We had a fan in the room, and slept like logs, assisted, no doubt, by some beverages taken at the floating bar Planck, 25 yards from Engelen Aan De WaterKant, which has not one, but two Good Beer Guide to Belgium approved bars within 100 yards.

Breakfast included freshly squeezed orange juice and strawberries with honey and creme freche: delicious.  And I managed to lever myself from the bath without doing myself a mischief- bonus!  A shower would have made our stay even better.  Parking on the street was convenient and cost €5.50.

The only reason I haven't rated this B&B "Excellent/5 stars" was the fact that we are not particularly adept at using a bath (there was only a bath, and not a shower), so we were less at ease than we would have been with a shower. Otherwise, this B&B is really fabulous. It's gorgeous, with a very spacious bedroom, incredibly comfortable bed, beautiful bathroom, and very nice location (though not as "central" as some might like). 

Ann was very welcoming and helped us tremendously to sort out some questions about the train schedule. She also had very nicely curated lists of restaurants in the area and throughout Ghent.

We really liked the surrounding neighborhood, though it takes a little while to walk to the center of Ghent. It's very proximal to some great museums and a couple of large parks, which was nice. I highly recommend it, especially if you're good at using a bath that has no shower.
