Captain Sven - what an amazing stay - home made Jane , local knowledge , unique stay . We all

Located centrally and easy to get to by car or train. (6 min walk from station)
En-suite , tv , hairdryer large room and on a boat !!

Unique place to stay. It was really a nice experience, but it was also very comfortable and quiet.
Your host, Sven, is the best! He explained everything we needed to know and prepared us a fantastic breakfast.
The location is good to visit Ghent, and in general Ghent is a good place to stay if you want to visit most of Belgium.

Run by the owner this was a great surprise. Friendly and comfortable atmosphere. Clean rooms and very good service. Woke up to sound of seagulls, followed by a coffee served by the owner, Sven, in the breakfast room. How many hotels can offer this level of experience? Highly recommended. It's a small business (it's a boat!) So book in advance.

Sven was very welcoming and accommodating, was happy to store my bike overnight in locked reception area.

I arrived in Ghent and my husband had booked the Boatel as a surprise. I was very excited to stay somewhere a little bit more unique. Captain Sven was very friendly and inviting, he gave us lots of local knowledge of places to visit and routes to take. The room (with it's own bathroom) was clean and airy, the beds were very comfortable and cosy. The breakfast was great with lots of choice, fresh breads, pastries, yoghurts, ham, cheese, muesli etc.. and an egg cooked to order :) I would want to return to the Boatel when we visit Ghent again.

Cozy hotel of only 5 rooms in a well renovated transportation boat. Captain Sven is a friendly and very hospitable host running the hotel efficiently. The boat is docked at a stone's throw from the old town which makes a very convenient accomodation. 
Our triple room was big, very comfortable and new toilette facilities. Fresh baked bread and good quality fruit for breakfast. 

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this unique "hotel". Sven is a wonderful attentive host.  Made to order eggs for breakfast to accompany the variety of breads and pastries, yogurt, fruit, juice and coffee.  Sipped our beer and wine on the topside deck to enjoy the ambiance of the canal at sunset.  Fun looking out our large porthole windows. With only 5 rooms, it's not crowded. There are stairs within the boat, and Sven helped with our luggage.
Easy walk across the bridge into the heart of town. We arrived at the Gent Dampoort train station and it was a bit of a walk with luggage to the Boatel, especially along the cobblestone streets. We opted for a taxi to the Gent St Pieters station when we left.

We had a two-night stay at The Boatel.  What a great place!  Slightly out of the town centre but easily walkable and it made the stay much more peaceful.  Sven (the captain!) was very welcoming.  Rooms were plenty big enough, very clean and comfortable.  Breakfast was wonderful.  Can't recommend it highly enough.

The hotel boatel is in a brilliant location, easy walk to lots of historical places and beautiful bars. Sven the host at the hotel boatel was a great bloke, very helpful . Pleasant and courteous,  all in all we had a brilliant stay, thanks Sven.

We stayed here for one night on the way back to Eurotunnel. It’s a lovely little hotel, with a friendly and helpful owner Sven. He gave us a guide to Ghent and advices us what to do and when things would be closing, which was really helpful. The view from the room is straight on to the canal and it’s so lovely and quiet. The only negative was that due to a heat wave it was very hot in the room, but could open the windows. However there are mosquitoes so make sure you pack repellent. Breakfast was a continental breakfast with an egg of your choosing and lovely coffee. We parked on the street and had no issues at all.

A unique hotel in a good location with a wonderful host

Lovely stay

Sven was an excellent host who made every effort to make us feel welcomed.  The breakfast was more than we bargained for and the eggs were done exceptionally well.  He also has a small selection of water, beer and wine if you don't want to go into town.  This was not the cheapest option in Ghent, but the location right on the water in a quiet neighborhood made up for any additional expense.
