My daughter and I went for one week of skiing in Wagrain and we stayed at Pension Montana. From the very first minute we felt welcome. It was nice and quiet, everything was very clean, and the host is both very polite and very helpful.

I stayed at the Pension Montana for a week in springtime 2010. The place was very quiet and clean. My room was quite large and had a balcony with views to the surrounding mountains.  The continental breakfast every morning was fresh and hearty.  The price of the room was economical and fair.

  Pension Montana is in a quiet neighborhood but only a short walk from restaurants and a grocery store (Josef let me keep groceries in his fridge), and also the main street and bus station.  The bus is convenient to several hikes along its route.

 I had a hiking guidebook that I planned to follow but when the owner of the Pension, Josef, saw my guidebook, he showed me several different hikes that only a local could know.  Each day Josef recommended a slightly more difficult hike; he even drew me a map to follow each day!  I enjoyed the hikes very much and knew these walks could never be found in a tourist book.  The best hikes he recommended were the Edelweiss-Alm and Tappenkarsee (and the Tappenkarsee Alm)--it's absolutely beautiful and not to be missed.  A couple of his hikes involved taking the ski lift to the top of the mountain and hiking down.

There were other pensions and gasthofs in the area but they were large and impersonal.  Pension Montana is a small place with personalized service.  Josef helped me to the bus station with my bags, and he went with me personally to the Post Office in town when I mailed a package home but failed to fill out a customs form (the young man at the post office was new on the job).  The package was eventually returned to the Pension Montana and Josef mailed it back to me.

I felt like I was home at the Pension Montana.  Josef was friendly and attentive, and he even sends me a postcard every Christmas.  If I'm ever back in the region, I'll stay again at the Pension Montana.
