Gasser Apartments Vienna

Gasser Apartments actually has something like 6 different units in central Vienna. This review is specifically for Am Ring 2 on Gonzagasse, but many of our comments would apply to any of the six. Am Ring 2 is in the northwest section of central old Vienna, within the ring road and surface rail. It is in a quiet neighborhood that is nice and seems to be on its way to becoming even nicer. The apartment is very close to one U-Bahn (Metro station) and convenient to other forms of public transportation as well. There are two grocery stores (a Billa and a smaller Aldi store) within a three-minute walk. Arrangements were easy to make. We were met at the door and given a thorough and friendly tour of the apartment, as well as tips about Vienna, local restaurants, etc. The apartment itself looks pretty much like the photos and was clean and in excellent condition. The kitchen was well stocked in terms of cookware, silverware, and appliances and all the rooms were comfortable. The building itself is an older renovated structure that maintains much of the original charm. The large doorway in front and hallway were designed to accommodate horse carriages, which you can kind of see as you enter. Much of the building seems to be taken up with small business, meaning that it was very quiet at night, which we welcomed. There are lots of nice restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk, and it's about a 15-minute easy stroll to St. Stephen's at the city's center. We used public transportation for some more distant sights (like Schonbrunn Palace), but found most of the time it was fine just to walk. One note: There are a lot of one-way streets in this area. We did use Uber on occasion and found that it was easiest for everyone if we walked about 100 yards around the corner to the Kampinski hotel and arranged for pickups there - otherwise it takes them about 5 minutes and many turns to get basically to the same place. If we return to Vienna we will likely start here either for this location or one of the Gasser apartments in the city.
