I wasn't prepared for a 3 star "hotel" without any front desk attendance after 20:00 (I'm guessing - could have been earlier or later). The door to the outside world was always unlocked. They were opposed it appeared to any fruit for the four breakfasts I had, but they did have pickles. The beds were comfortable and I loved the really heavy feather pillows, but the loan light bulbs in the room, and the reception area made me feel I was in some old Soviet block building. The truth to the 3 star was that body wash was provided in the smallest little jars I've ever seen. If it weren't for the body wash, I would have sworn the place was a 1 star. The lady from Romania who worked in the morning was a real sweetheart and super helpful and the location was perfect, but I think my eye sight worsened due to the poor lighting. A little white noise or music in the stuffy non windowed breakfast room would be helpful so people don't feel the need to whisper. Tubs and sinks did not drain (in all my student's rooms too), and some of the showers didn't have hooks for the hand hold shower, thus if not careful, they would jettison around the shower. Was the place clean? So hard to tell, because the place was just so old and renovated by the owners it felt like (weekend warrior style), to save money. Laminate flooring, warping and not matching the molding shapes, producing gaps where debris was hiding and maybe critters for example. I'm not a big wifi complainer, but if they had it, it sure didn't seem like it. The place just simply lacks taste. One can do better than stay here.

Homeless People Welcome

This hotel is in a very good location next to the lovely Votive church and was a good base for the conference at the University I was attending, but I wanted to flag to anyone considering this hotel (especially solo travellers) the fact that it is not very secure. The entrance to the hotel remains open all night, and the reception desk is unmanned, so at any time of the night a person off the street could walk in to the hotel and wander around. So all that's protecting you from the outside world is your thin hotel room door - I used a torch to run up the dark staircases each night and then barricaded myself in my room with a chair against the door because this made me so nervous! Also the shower only works if no one else in the building is using it at the same time...so if you try and shower at a peak time, eg 7-9am, you'll just get cold water. I got upgraded from a single to a double which I was grateful for, but the room had no natural light - many of the rooms just look into a grey quad at the bottom of the building. This hotel would be good if you're just staying for a couple of days for work and aren't too bothered about luxury but I would not recommend it for a holiday. I paid £240 for four nights and it was definitely not worth that.

Good location but not secure

Upon arriving at the hotel there were no members of staff at the front desk and my room keys were left on a piece of paper with a map of the hotel to my room. The lift was quite small and my partner and I had to ride individually with our cases. The hotel's interior is quite dated and in need of some work but the room itself was pleasant enough and the location was excellent. Check out the next day consisted of just handing the keys back.

Okay overall

A very good location - near the subway station Schottentor, University of Vienna, 10 mins. walk to  the city center.  Some lovely cafes around. Recommended for those who intend to mostly spend their time outside the hotel. 

P.S I would not recommend to have a breakfast at the hotel, though.
