Ulbing Gasthof

We stayed here at this family run hotel half board for a week. Totaly enjoyed our stay, the staff were very friendly and helpful despite our limited German language skils. The food was excellent with a plentiful and very good spread set out for breakfast with a good variety of local produce. Two options were available for the evening meals and there was plenty to eat which was all of good quality. Translations were provided to assist with the food options. It is particularly difficut transating the local foods so the translations were not perfect so it's probably best to just try what sounds good - it was all great anyway! Our room was clean and well maintained, we had a balcony with a nice view to the mountains. The bathroom was clean and to a modern standard and the shower was excellent. Rooms were made up daily and every day the rooms were well cleaned. The room had patio doors to the balcony for ventilation but since temperatures were low 30s daytime while we were there, it did get rather hot and was a bit difficult to get cool overnight. Location was good once you get used to the slightly windy road coming up from the lake, you really do need a car and there is adequate parking. Once we(Brits) got used to the road and our hire car it only took a few minutes to get down to the lake. Carinthia is a great area to explore and the provided guest card provided free entry to all the local cable cars and most of the boats and other attractions, must have saved a good £300 of entrance fees. We went up a different cable car each morning and then spent part of the afternoons on boat trips on the lakes to try and keep cool. You can even take a cable car up to the border of Austria, Italy and Slovenia and take a wak through all three countries. We had a great time and coulld easily go back and find more to do! Great holiday, recommended, would go back.
