Bio Archehof Eislbauer

This is a unique chance to stay in a traditional Austrian working farm in one of the country's most picturesque villages. From the front it looks like an alpine chalet but attached behind is a large barn where the animals live in the winter. It is only 10 minutes walk from the centre of St Gilgen although returning will take a little longer due to the slope. The rooms, especially on the 2nd floor, have amazing views of the lake whilst the back of the property is surrounded by meadows. You can sit on the balcony and admire the view. The furnishings are simple and rustic with many individual and tasteful touches. There is a fridge in the bedrooms and television but no cooking facilities. You can, however, have a beer or other drink in the dining room downstairs. The owners, Silvia and Andreas, are particularly attentive and will do anything to make your stay pleasant. There is off road parking, a bike shed and plenty of walks from the farm. Breakfasts are extra but good value with fresh bread, eggs, meat and cheese. The owners try and source all local organic produce and Sonia speaks English well. There is free wifi but the local internet connection is a bit unreliable. Tethering to my phone on the 3G network gave a good connection. This accommodation is good value for money and provides an excellent base for exploring the lake and surrounding countryside.
