Haus Waltraud

We originally booked Haus Waltraud in its entirety in 2019 to accommodate our entire family (children and grandchildren). With the intervention of Covid, the reservation had to be postponed for several years, during which time the owner of the property was very supportive in transferring the booking to the following year on several occasions, as we were coming from Australia. On 23rd December 2022, we were finally able to undertake our 10-night family stay (which involved 8 adults, 2 teenagers and 3 children) and upon arrival were greeted by a massive downfall of snow from the previous evening, which was the perfect start to what turned out to be an amazing stay. With regards, Haus Waltraud, it is probably best to categorise the different aspects of the accommodation as follows:- Location: The property is around 3 kilometres from Sankt Jakob in Defereggen, ideally situated in a picturesque valley in the quiet village of Maria Hilf. There is an excellent restaurant, named Zollwirt within a 5-minute walk of the property and during the ski season, buses run regularly from Maria Hilf to the nearby ski fields. There is also a cross country ski track that runs from Sankt Jakob past the property and a small toboggan run during winter that is 100 metres away. During the warmer months, hiking trails are prevalent. Facilities: The lay out of the chalet was excellent, comprising 3 apartments with kitchens and 4 double bedrooms, all of which were extremely spacious, well designed, had balconies (except the ground floor room) and were spread over three levels. Each room had its own ensuite (included hair dryer & some toiletries), as well as a wardrobe, table with chairs and satellite TV. All furnishings which reflected the alpine environment, were in good order and the beds and pillows extremely comfortable, whilst the free Wi-Fi worked without any problems through the entire chalet. All kitchens had a wonderful assortment of cooking utensils, crockery, glasses, cutlery, coffee making machine, kettle / jug etc and were additionally well equipped with a good-sized fridge, microwave, oven, cook top and dishwasher. Heating options were available throughout the entire house and on the second day of our visit, we required a minor adjustment to the heating, so rang the female contact (only speaks German) who manages the property and within an hour, the lady was onsite and the temperature was adjusted. Within the chalet on the ground floor there is a large, shared breakfast / communal room with a kitchen having all the required services, including an additional large cabinet fridge specifically for drinks and any miscellaneous items. This room which easily catered for our group of 13 persons for evening meals, included a large selection of board and card games and had the option to open out to a garden area and barbeque, which we did not utilise as the area was covered in snow. The chalet had a central clothes washing & clothes dryer facility, whilst there was also a spacious ski drying room on the ground floor. Parking: Our family had four vehicles which we could adequately park in front of the chalet. In conclusion, all our family members thought the chalet was absolutely fabulous, comfortable and perfectly designed, providing all the amenities one would require. Additionally, if one wished to have a period of quiet time, they could easily escape to their room, whilst others could congregate (if they wished) in the ground floor communal room for drinks, games etc. The location was also ideal and all in all, Haus Waltraud provided everything that a family environment could wish for and was a major contributor to an amazing and memorable family holiday.
