Gasthof Bergheimat

The tiny town of Pfafflar (Boden) was charming and adorable. We estimated that there were only about 20-30 buildings in the whole town. Based on the church (which was amazingly beautiful, by the way) with surrounding cemetery, there are three families who occupy the town. It truly seemed like most people knew each other there. The guesthouse (Gasthof) is literally at the end of the only road leading into this tiny town. It had about 20 rooms, I would guess, with elevator, so those with mobility issues would be okay. It also had a restaurant with limited hours. The room was small, but very clean and appointed with the features which were needed: TV, wardrobe, nice bathroom and beds. We were blessed in that our room (room 23) faced the mountains, so at night and in the morning we had a glorious sight. The owner and staff all appeared to be from the same three families. The owner spoke some English, but most of the restaurant staff spoke predominantly German. They had one breakfast menu printed in English -- I say only one because based on how weathered it looked, I assume that it is the sole copy. :-) The dinner menu was only available in German. I speak German, so this was not an issue; however, the staff seemed quite accommodating, so I guess a "gesturing game" could have been used to figure out the menu. We thoroughly enjoyed the regular breakfast as well as what we ate at dinner. I recommend the Wiener Schnitzel. A hike of the town took about 20-30 minutes. The property borders a river (not sure which), and there is a hiking trail on the other side, so for hikers this was a paradise. The nearest town was about 20 km or so away. The bathroom was modern; the shower had good pressure. The wifi signal in the room was strong, which was nice. The guesthouse had an outdoor pool, indoor pool as well as a few other activities, I believe.
