Hotel Alphof is an excellent centrally located hotel for ski trips in the Kitzbuehel area, for skiers of any skill level.  For two years now (Jan. 2015 and Jan. 2016), we've rented a car in Salzburg and driven to Tom and Monika's friendly hotel -- feels like home, kid friendly, but not just for people with kids.  Good food, plentiful breakfast buffet, warm rooms, great views, cold beers, friendly service, pool table, foozball table, etc.  Not the newest rooms, but nothing wrong with them; great base for exploring the area. Probably need a car to make this your ski base, unless you ski on the beginner/training slopes directly next door to the hotel.

Ski slopes just in front, ski & snowboard rental shop in the back, warm and efficient service & staff, cleanliness, very tasty dishes including kids meals, ski/snowboarding school & crèche on site, and a supermarket just across the road, etc., everything is great and perfect for us who are with young kids including beginners of winter sports.

We were very lucky to have found this hotel, and we will surely come back to this hotel.

Great place as a base for first-time skiers, being the closest site to both lifts and easily walking distance (even in ski boots). Beware that Kirchdorf will probably not hold the interest of experienced winter sports travellers, as there is only a nursery slope with a conveyer, rope-tow and t-bar, and one chair lift. As an indication my wife and I were first time boarders and advanced past the nursery slope on day 2, and never got on to the chair lift due to poor snow. 

There is a free ski-bus that runs reasonably regularly from Kirchdorf around the area, including St Johann, Steinplatte and Fieberbunn, but you will need an area lift pass. The bus stop is 3 minutes walk from the hotel, by the ski school.

Hotel staff were very friendly, poke good English (much as we tried with German), food buffets were always good quality, rustic fare, great for carbs. Lunches available include good pizzas at a reasonable price.

Comments around the bar area are fair- the reception bar itself is small and does permit smoking (no public smoking ban), although we didn't have any issues with smoke in our rooms and we were on the first floor. 

Have been here many times due to its location.  Great for beginners and the ability to ski right back to the hotel doors from the slopes.  It's right next to the free ski bus stop too saving your energy for skiing and not carrying gear.  The bus provides plenty of opportunity to explore the significantly bigger ski areas which host ample black and interesting and varied red runs plus good wide open blues for beginners.  The ski shop is just over the road.  The hotel also has a great little boot room which makes life easier again.  The scenery in this area whilst skiing is beautiful.

Bedrooms are large and have plenty of wardrobe space.  They are spaced over three floors with a couple of family rooms that are dark and unattractive but with separate bedrooms and 2 bathrooms they are ideal in what they offer.  All rooms are clean and basic and consistent with other places in the area.  Be warned, Wi-Fi appears isolated in bedrooms - often only one small area in the room where it works well.   The best rooms look out over the slope rather than the car park (which offers limited spaces).  There is a spa downstairs which we didn't use.

You are allocated your table in the restaurant for the duration of your stay.  The breakfast will certainly set up you for a day's skiing and there is plenty of choice.  Dinner is buffet style and usually by the end of the week you'll be glad to have something different but it is perfectly adequate.  There is a small convenience store over the road which has everything you might need (chocolate lovers take note!).  They have fresh fruit and will even make sandwiches up for you if needed.

During the Summer the hotel becomes a biker's paradise and you do get the feeling that the owner prefers this season more.  That said, the staff are friendly and are always willing to help you if you ask and although they are limited in speaking English its never been a problem.
  
Whilst we're regulars, there is no denying that the hotel has become incredibly tired over the years and we would not have booked again.  However, they are closing for the 2017 season for refurbishment so we will have to wait and see!

When I went to Austria this year I had a really good time there, but sadly there has been various things that have scared me when I was there, example when a fake World War II alarm went off when I was on the chairlift and when alarms keep going off in the hotel, no-one speaks English so they can't tell us what was going on. If you want to go I would go, but don't let things scare you to much.
