(Alpengasthof) MoaAlm Mountain Retreat

We’ve just returned from a marvellous week at MoaAlm, a truly special place nestled in the Austrian Alps. It strikes the perfect balance between a welcoming home and a luxury retreat. Sophie, Tobi, Jana, Frederique, and Marie were all wonderful, creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The mountain views are spectacular, especially when enjoyed from the hot tub after a hard day of hiking. Our south-facing room was spacious and immaculate, but the real highlight was the window looking out on the mountains. And just when you think the views can't get any better, you go on a guided hike and see a glacier lake, or marmots. We did struggle a bit with some of the hikes (you may want to train a little beforehand) but it didn't take anything away from our experience. Getting great food on holiday can be a challenge as vegans, but the food was so creative and delicious. Izabella made dishes we've not come across in a decade of being vegan. There was also such a personal touch with dietary preferences accounted for, Izabella making a delicious chocolate and mango birthday cake, and bottle tops diligently saved for a collector. We loved being able to grab a drink and Manner biscuits from the self-service bar. Being vegan, I didn't expect to be able to eat in a mountain hut, but Sophie and Tobias have worked with the local community to ensure there are vegan options. The yoga classes were varied from active to yin, and morning to afternoon. My favourite day consisted of hiking, afternoon cake, yin yoga, and hot tub - absolute bliss. In short, MoaAlm is an incredible place, offering the perfect blend of invigorating activity and proper relaxation. I'm already planning my return!
