Hotel Restaurant Ohlknechthof

In years past my family and I had only stopped in Horn to use the bankomat and walk the downtown on the evenings on our way to visit the Weitraer Adventtage. I was always intrigued with the menu posted outside Restaurant Öhlknechthof, but we spent the weekends in Friedersbach. This year my wife and I decided reserve our accommodations in Horn, and dine at two of the local restaurants. On our first evening we walked into the courtyard entrance of the Öhlknechthof, and were surprised to see that the kitchen had wall-to-wall windows that provided us with an intimate view of the mysterious activities required to produce fine dining. It's appropriately labeled "The Kitchen Aquarium". We entered the dining room, announced ourselves, and were promptly seated at our table. We started with appetizers of the Goose Liver and Beef Tatar. The Liver was excellent and the chef's blend of the Tatar was unique and exquisite. We then had a well-prepared seasonal Topinambur (Jerusalem artichoke) Cream Soup. We selected, and shared, the Venison Goulasch and Tafelspitz for our entrées. Delicious. Schnapps from a local producer, and a bottle of Kamptal Zweigelt wine enhanced our meal. The dining room was intimate and the waiter was attentive. I gave the Chef two thumbs up as I stood outside his aquarium as we left a wonderful dining experience. Highly Recommended.
