The real deal: genuine historic castle beautifully preserved, filled with lovely antiques, marvelous location with spectacular views all around. Nothing flashy or commercial about it. They don't try to sell you a massage, minibar, excursion, etc. No telephones, keycards, TVs, or anything else that would make it feel like a modern chain. Friendly and sincere welcome, efficient service, good family style cooking for dinner in a spectacular dining room, excellent breakfast. Concert piano, and blazing fire in one of the many common rooms filled with books. Don't come if you don't want to leave our century behind and slowly settle into the 16th century (albeit with plumbing). All a bit uneven and crooked, sometimes worn and imperfect -- making it one of the most charming hotel experiences of our lives, and a fair value for money. We will definitely be back!
