Gasthof & Hotel Wolfsegger

This lovely quaint and quirky hotel was a god send on our journey travelling with our dog, through Europe, to get to our final destination of Budapest. The main reason initially for booking was because it was close to the motorway and ‘dog friendly’. We stayed for 1 night, ate dinner and had breakfast. The gentleman running the hotel (possibly the owner) was so entertaining and nothing was too much trouble. He was a breath of fresh air at the end of our eight hour long, car journey. Our very well trained, small non moulting dog Daisy was made so welcome too. It’s hard to know what ‘dog friendly’ really means. For us, I always hope that ‘dog friendly’ means we can enjoy her as part of our family with not having to leave her locked in up the bedroom. I worked hard training Daisy and socialising her. I also chose a small dog breed that doesn’t moult so that I can spend time with her generally in my life and have her with me when working professionally. Being able to enjoy Daisy as part of our family has proved quite restricting when travelling with her in the United Kingdom, a country of so called dog lovers, due to un-informed negative attitudes of ‘let’s just tar all dogs with the same brush’. So I didn’t quite know what to expect when travelling through parts of Europe. While I’m on this subject, I’ll just take a moment to stand on my soap box. Here goes - Unfortunately a very small number of dog owners do not train their dogs and do not take responsibility for their dogs behaviour or waste, which leaves the rest of us having to break down those negative taboos that have been created. So I’m always grateful when Daisy gets treated with the respect she so deserves. Please pass on: it’s not the dog’s fault but those of the owners and please don’t tar all dogs with the same brush as there are many other responsible dog owners who do their dogs proud and therefore make an environment where dogs are allowed safe and enjoyable. Ok, back to my review, in the evening we ate in the restaurant and yes with Daisy happily ensconced under our table. The food was just as you would expect, good quality and delicious. I just had to have the Wiener schnitzel for my main! The local beer was delicious. Our bed and the room: quirky, welcoming and very comfortable. The wooden sink and wooden bathtub a joy to experience. I’m not going to say more as I think the element of surprise is as much a part of this experience as anything else. Breakfast was not disappointing either, plentiful with a choice of continental and cooked. The pictures are of Daisy on our journey.... 😊 Happy safe travelling folks!
