Biedermeier Schlössl Lerchenhof

We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Lerchenhof. The family Steinwender is so special, several generations. It is clear they love it here! We would see some of them at the breakfast table every morning. We were thrilled to explore the grounds; we saw pigs and cows, and shopped at the castle farm shop which offered produce and meats and other regional goods on the honor system. We learned about how their house bacon is actually the healthiest kind there is. The land is set up on a hill above the quaint village of Hermagor and the owners take pride in sustainability. Our friends moved there a couple years ago and we wanted to stay in an authentic Austrian hotel. They immediately recommended this place and we know why. It’s the real deal. The family adopts those that work for them as part of the family. Guests are warmly welcomed and they will arrange for you a personal tour to nearby Italy and Slovenia’s beautiful spots. The summer breakfasts on the terrace every morning was a sublime, in a quiet and peaceful setting, the birds singing. You can have dinner on the terrace as well and have more bacon tasting among other fresh and delicious entrees. Don’t forget to try their delicious Carinthian wines and regional beer. You must come and see for yourselves why we are already planning our trip back to this special place in Austria. Thank you, Steinwender family and crew. Til we meet again!
