To help you better understand my reviews, my wife and I are independent travelers in our mid-60s. While we definitely like a bit of luxury and enjoy good food, we usually find five-star hotels and Michelin starred restaurants too pretentious. The hotel is located at a small pass (the Bödele), we stay here while attending the Schubertiade in the village down below. This is officially a three-star hotel, so it lacks some of the amenities you might want, like a swimming pool, but the rooms are immaculate, if a bit spare. But the hotel has two enormous plusses. The first is its location. You get a lovely view over the valley from the bedroom windows and the area is crisscrossed by walking trails, mostly gentle (the entire Bregenzerwald area is gentle -- serious hikers should look for more rugged places in Tyrol). But even more important, the attached restaurant is fantastic. They have a lovely outdoor terrace (very, very popular on sunny weekend days, when locals come to walk), and on colder, rainy days, a welcoming gemütlich interior. The menu features regional specialties, as well as some international (mostly Italian) dishes. There is a nice selection of Austrian wines. If you are staying at the hotel, the breakfast, included in the price, is to die for. Lets face it: Austria makes the world's best bread!
