Gilgara Retreat

Absolutely smashing. Unusual units, clean and spacious, easy check in process and the homesteads look so traditional. Very peaceful surroundings, woken by kookaburras, just brilliant. Highly recommend Gilgarra, trades working in a couple units and even they were thoughtful and quiet.

Good central location at Margaret River as a base to go up or down the region. Likely to disturb your neighbors if you talk loudly and use devices at full volume. Good place is you’re looking to be quiet and calm. Can hear the road from the apartment units but there’s not much traffic in the area so it’s not very disruptive.

Just a shame there’s no one to talk to if I wanted to extend my stay etc. no phone number either just online bookings.

We stayed in one of the garden Parker’s at Gilgara retreat and it was beautiful. Such a unique layout, relaxing and ideal for our short getaway! Great communication, easy check in and checkout process! Would be back again!

We were very pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the property was and the apartment we stayed in was vey comfortable and all amenities were excellent.

Amazing stay! Beautiful place, exactly like the pictures. Wonderful accomodation. No issues at all. Will definitely be coming back!

Absolutely loved our stay at Gilgara! Was so quiet & beautiful and had such a relaxing stay! The apartment is fabulous and has absolutely everything you need! Will definitely be back when in Margaret River again!

We stayed in one the garden apartments for our 3 night anniversary weekend.  The apartment is well built in rammed earth.  Polished concrete floors, timber accents, huge bathroom with full length shower, no hob and a spa bath, lots of storage, fantastic bed.  In our opinion everything was built with better options.

Nice views, 10 min drive to town and very close to all attractions.

Lots of glass in the apartment to see out the only minus means the windows need washing.  

Perhaps a full length mirror would be good.
Parking near apartments is needed!  Parking is a good 60 m walk but through verandas of homestead.  Annoying when lugging bags or mobility impairment.

Great place to stau

A very good location and interesting design of the buildings with lot's of glass letting the outside in. However, when the property supplies sleeping masks for your eyes it is a sign the sun is up early and so are the guests as you can't block out the upper windows.  Other than that this a great location and property.

Great venue for early risers

Communication was excellent. Lizzie was very contactable via phone and text message. Sunny the inside caretaker was definitely a sunny character. 

The homestead and grounds were beautiful. I can imagine it would be a perfect spot for a wedding. The lavender , grape vines, wisteria and the lovely big chestnut trees all provide a really lovely backdrop. 

We stayed at the self contained apartments. Large and comfy beds, large sitting area with a bush outlook. 

There are areas where it could be better but nevertheless it was a pleasant stay. 

A pleasant stay

We last stayed here in 1989, so it was great to be back with our two young adult daughters!. We stayed in a garden apartment and our daughters were in the guest house.  The guest house had a  nice fire going and the rooms seemed clean and comfortable, as were the bathrooms. There were no meals (like there were in 1989) but there was an immaculate share kitchen if you wanted to cook.  The only staff member was a caretaker, so you basically had privacy and quiet.  Our garden apartment was lovely with a sunken bath and small kitchen - very roomy accommodation.  Gilgara is so peaceful and the gardens are stunning.  We also had contact with Lizzie via text and she was very helpful and recommended some great places for us to eat- this was really beneficia!  We had a minor issue with a toilet in the guest house and Lizzie had the caretaker sort asap.  Thanks Gilgara!

Peaceful location and great accommodation

We stayed here in September just prior to having our baby. We stayed in one of the garden apartments and it was amazing in every way. It was also nice to be a bit out from the main town. 

The only sad thing is now we have our baby it sounds like we won’t be able to return as apparently it’s a “no children allowed” hotel :( Hopefully it will still be running and just as nice for our return in 18 years time. 



Babymoon 

Beautiful garden suite which had both very modern minimalist architecture and interior design with a lot of glass features. Living room was perfect for lounging around with a wine accompanied by a beautiful view of the garden outside. Extremely spacious and comfortable living conditions.Angus checked us in and was very hospitable – he had earlier sent us a welcome email with recommendations for the sights as well as the popular restaurants. He gave us a map of Magaret River and suggested an itinerary for 1D trip southward bound towards Augusta which was very enjoyable.Location is about an 8mins drive along Carters Road from the main Magaret River town but if you can live with that, would recommend this as a choice of accommodation. To note, the bed-and-breakfast was not open during my stay so we had the entire retreat to ourselves.

Beautiful modern garden suite with stunning view

Gilgara was a treat - great for a getaway if your wanting to switch off as there is very little to poor reception for mobile phones and the wifi allocation the give you lasted about an hour! Other than that it was a beautiful location with great gardens and such a comfortable bed. Due to the windows though the garden suites heat up so keep that air con on, this kind of makes the sitting air virtually useless in the morning due to the heat of the sun. Also be sure to wear the sleeping masks if you don't want to be woken by the sun rising at 5am!

Great Location to Switch Off

We stayed in a garden suite and it couldn't have been any better. The experience was flawless from start to finish - from the welcome cookies to Angus's helpful hints and hospitality to the hassle-free checkout.A couple of highlights:- Gardens on way to suites were beautifully manicured and helped set the scene; sweeping views of the countryside from inside the room was equally impressive- The bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept in and the pillowy doona just made it impossible not to sleep in- Sunken spa had plenty of room for 2, was quick to fill and had adjustable jets! Thoughtful touches like tealights and local fragrances made the experience all the more relaxingThe Gilgara garden suites are a luxurious, modern retreat and we can't wait to go back!
