Spent a night this week driving down the coast. The facility is awesome. We had a very nice, clean room that opened to the deck, and full access to the living room and kitchen. Shelly the owner is super nice. Their dog Boof was fun to play with while missing our own dog while we are on vacation. It included a cereal, toast and fresh fruit breakfast which is our go-to meal for mornings.

Shelley (my host) welcomed Banjo (my little dog) and I with warm open arms ... we felt like we had come home to friends, yet we were strangers (for a split second).  The home is a wonderfully renovated & furnished Queenslander not far from the CBD but in a very quiet lane.  There was even  a thoughtful little fenced garden for pets.  My ensuite bedroom was perfect, spotlessly clean with tropical breezes flowing through.  The bed so comfortable I fell asleep instantly ... in the middle of the day!  It was wonderful to wake up to birdsong in the morning, then sit around a huge breakfast table with other guests on the wide cool veranda and share tales of travels before heading off on the next leg of the journey.  Shelley is such a perfect host ... warm and friendly, and nothing is too much trouble even though she was on crutches on my visit.   This is truly a warm pet friendly home and I really appreciated it.  Thank you so much Shelley & Denis for a wonderful too-short stay which has put Gladstone on my 'must stay' list next trip (I previously have bypassed it).  

For those in the area, with or without pets a great spot Shelley recommended was the Marina parklands where there are lots of BBQ's, seating and a playground along the rivers edge ... a great spot for a picnic and to let the dog (or children) run off some pent up travel energy.

what a cute place and shelley the owner is such a lovely and sweet lady! she welcomed us with open arms in her bnb and we felt home instantly. shelly will make you feel home and she talks as if she knew you since ever! so natural and so kind. and also brings people together.we had a lovely room with a comfortable bed and lovely big bathroom. there is a big veranda with lounge furniture and a table for breakfasts. at breakfast we had fresh fruits,yoghurt,coffee and smoothie. our girls had  toast with jam and orange juice. we had dinner with shelley where we had a lovely chat. she loved my girls and was kind enough to bring her big,sweet dog to her sons place cause my girl was too scared of dogs. she is generous and kind and my girls and us loved her! at shelley bnb you will feel home away from home!
i can recommend to stay here for everyone! its the best place in gladstone!

It combined the ease you only feel when staying with family, with the sense of peace you get when you wake up with the birds in a beautiful sunlit room miles away from all your troubles... But practically speaking: it was great value, immaculately restored Queenslander with a kitchen out of master chef! Shelley made us a generous breakfast and made sure we were cool and comfortable in the QLD heat. She gave us advice on the local restaurants and attractions and made us to feel right at home. I would recommend Off the Lane as the perfect place to recharge on a long drive north or a stop over between Heron Island and going back to the big city (in our case Sydney).  We are planning on  returning to Heron and making sure to drop in at Off the Lane for the night on our way home because we loved it so much!

Driving into the B&B I was a bit put off by the surrounding street as it is lined with unattractive houses and light commercial but once I was inside the building I was pleasantly surprised. The B&B is newly renovated with lovely furnishings. Hosts Shirley and Denis were so friendly and welcoming. I was on a work trip and when I arrived Shirley was out on the verandah having a drink with guests and offered me a drink and bought out some nibbles. Up to you if you want to join in or just go to your room. My room and ensuite were tastefully decorated and clean. I have stayed at the Auckland Hill B&B before and although their rooms were larger I preferred staying here as the rooms were cleaner and had nicer furnishings. Breakfast was good too. It is very close to some pubs and restaurants for dinner. I would recommend staying here.
