Best scallop pie in all of Tassie (in my opinion) is from the Blue Seal food van next to the cafe. Pastry flaky and divine. 7 scallops in a home made curry sauce (so quite different to the Keens curry powder pies). Sauce was utterly delicious and perfect consistency. The lady who served me was super friendly. I told her to congratulate Blue Seal’s pie chef for producing the best scallop pie I’d had. And I’d tried 11 other scallop pies before this one.

Delicious, beautifully cooked egg and bacon breakfast, with the best coffee we have encountered in Tasmania. Clean, comfortable, convenient and  attractive cafe surroundings, with impeccable service from the friendly, approachable  and professional staff member.

We couldn’t find anything open in Taranna so were delighted to see this hotel open with its big red flags fluttering. We had  fish and chips served promptly in a lovely room by a cheerful waitress. Very yummy and  affordable too. 

We stopped here on the way back from Port Arthur for Devonshire tea, and although there were no more scones left we had a lovely time. Apparently a Tibetan mystic had stopped by earlier that day, so there was fascinating conversation as well as good food.

This place had been operating intermittently for a while as The Blue Seal Cafe. Until recently it was the base for one of the coastal adventure cruises, but now it is a cafe and guesthouse once again. We called in for a coffee one morning and were pleasantly received. We were able to sit in the covered outdoor area and water was provided for the dog. The coffee was hot and tasty. In conversation with the new operators, we were told that the accommodation is available, and they open for breakfast and lunch. They intend to keep the Blue Seal name, and the big blue elephant seal up front is easily spotted as you approach. There's plenty of parking both on the roadside and in a side car park.

We stayed in the Eaglehawk Bay Room - great value for a very well presented and cosy room.

Water views from the shared verandah (only three rooms though, was never anyone on it) although it is over the main road (traffic is light).

The cafe has now closed - we drove ten minutes to Mussell Boys for dinner (recommended).

Good continental breakfasts.

Great for an easy lunch 

Another cafe review

Saw this café on our way to Eaglehawk neck, and decided to stop in to have coffee and lunch on the way back.  After asking if we could have coffee, was abruptly told "we don't do takeaway coffee", which was fine as we wanted to eat in anyway.  After looking at the menu we ordered Salt & Pepper squid $16.50, Fish and chips $15.50 & two coffees $4.50 each.   "That will be $57".  We sat outside and when our coffees were brought out I questioned the price, and was told that those meal prices were takeaway, we had to pay $20 each to eat in.  Still didn't add up.  When she delivered the meals (without cutlery) I again queried the price, and was told "I said $22 each, we have to charge extra for washing up" and she abruptly left.  Still didn't add up, but we were over the aggressive behaviour.  Luckily when the plates were to be cleared away, the owner came to the table.  I mentioned to the owner that meals were ok, but her waitress could do with an attitude check.  She offered us coffee to make up for it (but considering they don't do takeaway coffee, we weren't going to remain there).  That is the last time we will visit though.  When you have a cafe' restaurant in an area that has a lot of tourists, you should be investing in providing Customer Service Excellence to everyone that walks through your door.  There are many other cafes that we will spend our hard earnt money in, where we don't have to pay extra for the abuse.  Disappointed.

Lufra is the best hotel in the area, only because it is the only hotel in the area. 

The rooms are very dated and tired. The bathroom in my room seems to have been renovated recently but the room itself looks in need of some work. The furniture is well worn, the carpet and painted walls are marked and stained in places. 

The service was below average but the sheets and towels are clean so it is certainly an adequate property. 

The location is fantastic. Overlooking the water with some views of the harbour (from my room a anyway).

I have stayed there before and I probably will stay there again, but mostly because there is a lack of options in Eaglehawk Neck.

Dissatisfied - don’t go

I was served coffee in a cup that had obvious pink lipstick  marks on it. When I polity pointed it out to the waitress and asked for a replacement she said 'I think it's just chocolate. She did make me another cup but was very rude and didn't speak to us for the rest of our stay. Customer service is obviously not one of her strong points. The BLT was very nice.
