Sundeck Hotel

While this review may be a little longer than usual, I will not stoop to the Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness of a previous reviewer (S.F.), who's lofty standards I could not hope to emulate. I've been staying at the Sundeck since 1963 (more seasons than not), and albeit I was very young then, I have many fond memories over the many years. Yes, the building itself is dated (60+ years old), and some (Mr F) may say it's "tired", but the atmosphere, food and service is always memorable, the views from most of the rooms, the bar and lounge are breathtaking, and the ski in ski out position is unmatched. As is the value for money for such a prime position. I’m not sure about other people (😳) ….. but I don’t go to the snow to watch TV or spend time on devices. Strange as it may seem, I go to ski, and for the enjoyment of interacting with other lodge guests (and staff). Obviously staff and food and snow vary from season to season, but overall there is no better place to stay!! And I believe I am well qualified to comment as I have stayed in MANY different hotels and lodges over the years. Cliff, Sayaka and the other staff are always friendly and accommodating, like calmly and clearly (and often humorously) explaining the options for dinner, or providing power boards or extension cords if required 😳. And strangely, I’ve never considered it an imposition to drop my room key in the box before leaving each morning…. A- I’m not at risk of losing it, and B- it’s one less thing in my pockets (of which there are usually many when skiing). Another thing I really enjoy at the Sundeck is the afternoon live entertainment 6 days out of 7. Nowhere else on the mountain provides this! And while it is true that the wild “party days/nights” at the Sundeck are a rarity these days, it’s not such a bad thing for old buggers like me who can no longer party all night and ski all day. 😔 Keep up the great work Cliff and Sayaka, you provide a fantastic overall service at reasonable on snow rates.
