This lovely old motel is close to Dutchies Beach.  My room was large, with beach views from the living room.  The included kitchenette had a jug, toaster, microwave and refrigerator, plus china, glassware, cutlery and a few kitchen tools.  There was a TV (with only a few channels), comfortable couch, table and chairs.  The deck also included a table and chairs.  The bedroom had a queen bed, comfortable, with nice quality sheets.  The bathroom, although a little dated, was adequate, with a shower recess, and large towels.
I enjoyed my 2 night stay, with walks along the beach, a walk into the town with shops, restaurants, whale watching cruises.
My stay there was enjoyable, and I would recommend the establishment.

Beach getaway.

Clean room with lovely views. Bathroom could be updated. Balcony has great views but unfortunately offers no privacy - bathroom is small and it is easier to towel dry at end of bed (limited room beside bed) but passers by on balcony have clear view in - one actually waved while I was changing. Bad luck for us was weather of cold temperatures and torrents of rain and oil heater was totally inadequate and getting to a cafe/restaurant or supermarket meant getting very wet.
Also all noise from surrounding rooms, including office, was quite intrusive.

Potential BUT …

The room is great for a short stay! Given the price I believe it was a little pricey but given the length of our stay it was more than suitable. You could hear noises from the outside and from surrounding rooms but these were minor issues. The main selling point for the motel is its amazing location right beside the beach. The friendly French woman who helped us check-in was extremely helpful and helped make us feel very welcome on our late arrival here. I can definitely recommend Dutchies Motel Nelson Bay for a short stay, for couples, solo travellers and families alike!

Serene Location and Close to the Centre

Workers 4 WD blocked off view a good deal of the time.

Beautiful location, with very generous sized and clean unit.  The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.  Our only suggestion would be to have clearer signage, both for the motel and office.  Lovely stay overall

Great little hideaway stay

We stayed here for a 3 night getaway. Our first weekend away after COVID-19. We’d stayed before a couple of years ago, in room 6 downstairs, and enjoyed it so we booked again, this time, we were given room 2, upstairs. Our first night, after travelling and being out n about for the day in pouring rain, we went back to the room, looking forward to hot showers and settling in. My partner had been in the shower for approx. 4 minutes when he yelled out that the water went cold. I called the number on the info sheet... no after hours contact so I walked to reception and found a man doing some laundry - not sure if he is the caretaker or manager, we told him the situation, his response was “well they’re small tanks, you can only have 2 minute showers.” I made it clear I wasn’t happy that I now wouldn’t be able to have a shower, he told me I would have to shower in the morning!! I told him I wasn’t going to bed dirty. He got it that I was ridiculously annoyed, he came back 10 minutes later and offered for me to shower in the room next door, which I appreciated - so 2 minute trickling showers was what we had for the rest of our stay. The bed was super uncomfortable, to say the least. We seen the same guy after being there for 2 nights, his response to us “oh you’re still here!” How rude! We told him about the bed and that I ended up on the futon lounge, which wasn’t much better, he told us the bed was 3 months old - We could feel every spring from that mattress in our backs and sides, if that mattress was 3 months old, I’m guessing they purchased the cheapest mattress they could find. We also worked out that the glass door is very easy to unlock, a few jiggles and it was open! We didn’t feel safe and we didn’t trust leaving our valuables when we were out. Room got super stuffy during the night as the screen door does not lock. Windows are at the same level as the car park behind so there was no way we were leaving them open, you could see straight into the bathroom and room. The fridge made a windy air sound the whole time, which drove us crazy! I’ve given 2 stars, one for the view and one for the cleanliness of the room. I couldn’t possibly recommend this place after this visit and we will never return. On checkout, the same old guy asked how “everything was” (lol, yes really) I told him, it was uncomfortable and the bed was awful.... no apology, no nothing except to repeat that the mattress is new. Terrible stay. Chiropractor visit booked.

Never Again! Bed very uncomfortable!

Very good motel room with great view and not far from town. Only items to make known are the lack of  aircon and ceiling fan in bedroom. There is a ceiling fan in sitting area and a standing fan in the wardrobe but the bedroom area would be stuffy in hot conditions. Also i could not get hot water in the shower in the evening and in the morning only very limited supply - not enough for a 3 minute shower. on balance a great room but may not suit in summer

Very friendly welcome from the staff 10/10.  Room is nicely appointed. The room reminded me of staying in motels with mum and day 45 years ago.  In a good way.  Super clean and nice amenities.  It may be warm during summer with no air con.  We were fine. Bed comfy and room spacious.  We even had a view.   Thanks
