Mansfield Country Resort

On the map it’s right in the middle of Sydney and Melbourne so I thought this would make a great home base to launch day trips in either direction. I was wrong. The highways here force you to go slow and take forever. It took 8hrs from Sydney to Mansfield and it took 2.5hrs from Mansfield to Melbourne. And Melbourne closes everything by 5pm, the malls close at 5pm! Some places, super few, close by 6pm. So had to leave the resort super early to get anything done in Melbourne, felt like Cinderella, and had to spend 5hrs driving each day we decided to go to Melbourne AND the gas is outrageously expensive!!! Glad I rented a hybrid Toyota Camry that accepted the E10 (cheapest) fuel but still paid a fortune in gas. The only convenient place to go to was Mt. Bullet for snowboarding lessons for my son because it seems that everyone from Melbourne comes by way of Mansfield to get to Mt. Buller. But it was still close to an hour drive each way. And you still need to pay for the entrance and parking there, so getting there is not the end of it. Oh, then there’s the lift you need to pay for in order to get any lessons, yup was expensive but unforgettable for my son. I found it inconvenient/weird/wrong that they had one single heater for the whole 2-bedroom house and it was in the living room. The beds had a wire underneath to “heat” your bed. But 1) it just gave me a sore back from lying over the thick wires and 2) I was to scared of getting electrocuted from that thing. It’s not unthinkable that somewhere down the wire there could be something frayed and all of a sudden your butt is sitting over live wires passing 230V under your fanny. My wife suggested removing the darn thing and setting it aside after like the second night and sore back and sore neck. After we moved that out of the way the bed was comfy but a bit cold. There again, it took me a while to discover that I could use the ceiling fan to mix the cold air in the bedroom with the warm air in the living room, I just had to flip the switch on the motor to make it go in the opposite direction and pull up the cold air instead to push it down over our faces, we also had to leave the bedroom door open : ) so the last day of our stay was actually the most comfortable. Wish I did all those things from the get go. So at least you can head my advice and have a nicer stay than I did. I really liked that every house had a DVD player and that you could borrow as many DVDs as you wanted for free from the lobby.
