Areca Launceston is always my first choice when I stay in Launceston. The staff are friendly & professional, rooms are quiet & clean. Everything is within walking distance - just beware they are on a decent hill

Suited our needs for a one night stopover. Room was clean. Room had a modernized bath/shower. Staff were friendly. Be aware of no elevator/lift if you are not staying on a ground floor. Also this location is situated on the side of a very steep grade so walking around the neighborhood will be affected etc.

Having last reviewed Areca in Jan 2021, we can report that it is still clean, comfortable, quiet, and great value for money. Our choice was a King room on the upper floor with superb views, responsive wi-fi, and room controlled air-con. The premium for a King room is very small. Definitely worth considering for a most spacious room, as well as one of the most comfortable huge beds that we have ever slept in. It does involve heading up one flight of stairs (no lift) and there are also steps upto reception at the adjoining Waratah. Therefore Areca might not be the best choice for those with mobility issues, but business travellers in particular should have a good night at a conveniently located boutique hotel with a study desk and parking on site. We again found the staff to be most pleasant and helpful. Spot-on suggestions were made about breakfast options as Areca no longer offers breakfast, contrary to information on this Tripadvisor listing. We also went with 4 stars rather than 5 as the rather austere room chairs provide a nice looking decor, but perhaps are a bit dated and lacking in longer stay comfort. All in all though, we would be happy to return again, and recommend Areca as a great value option on the fringe of Launceston CBD

Quiet Comfortable Boutique

Great for a business traveller looking for clean modern no-frills accommodation with a decent size desk to work in the evening. Car parking is a little bit squeezy for large cars but not overly problematic. No restaurant on premises but plenty of options in the CBD a short walk away. Added bonus not mentioned on the web site: the aquatic centre just over the road is great those who like keeping fit. Would stay again.

The Accommodation was great, staff very friendly and helpful. They also help with what to do and where to eat depending your tastes, and when we got to our room it was great with all the amenities you need the bed was comfortable but the view from the room was great would stay again in Launceston well worth the money compared to Westpoint motel

Great place to stay

The fire alarm went off at 3am the first night which meant we had to leave our room.. no explanation given the next day.. the fire brigade did not hang around long.. but would have been nice to have some communication from reception about it..down/up a steep drive and parking was full on the level we were on so had to walk up steep hill.. ok for us but maybe not for some people. Room was clean and there was milk and water in fridge

I was not sure what to expect but I was delighted to check into a room that is clean, comfortable and has a beautiful view. Was really happy with everything and communication was great. The only downside was I had to carry my luggage up 2 flight of stairs and it was hard when you travel alone and had a heavy luggage. If I knew, I would request for ground floor. But other than that, I am pretty happy and would definitely recommend this place.

Not my first stay at Areca Launceston - this property, & the wonderful Waratah on York it is attached to, have become my first choice for accommodation in Launceston. Great location, friendly staff & sensational views from the hillside location. As a single female traveller, I always feel safe at this location & walking around the area.

Parking area is a little limiting,  the larger 4x4's would really struggle. The room was extremely comfortable and absolutely could not fault it. The room rate was exceptional for a kingsize bed. I knew that the whole property was on a steep slope and was glad that we didn’t have too far to walk to reception. Upon checking in, the lovely lady couldn't have possibly done any more for us, as we had called ahead to inform her that we were going to be delayed with our arrival. She remained after her closing time for us. We highly recommend and will definitely stay again, although we will book for more than 1 night 😊

The room was very nice, but I have taken a star away due to:- no reception on Sunday so nowhere to store bag- on an extreme hill, so bad for someone walking everywhere- I really don't like above-head showers where it only falls vertically from above. As someone fat, I can't clean the lower half of my body.

Nice stay but not perfect.

The room was was very well presented. I was impressed that the heater was to warm the room for my arrival.  The down side is that parking situation is not the best if you are not fit.  There is limited parking on the reception level.  Otherwise parking is under the building with a sharp assent of narrow stairs to reception.
