Posada de Chacras

We spent 7 days at Posada de Chacras. More than we meant to as we loved it so much. Chacras is 20 min drive outside of Mendoza but has a much nice country feel with all the restaurants, wineries and bars you could need. Perfect after BA. We stayed in a lovely double room with wardrobe, bed side tables and a fan. It had a door to a small courtyard which had a table and chairs. It was next to a nice bathroom with shower. Towels and linens were provided all fresh and changed each day. There is a living room to chill out in with a table. A huge beautiful garden with plenty of seating areas, a small pool and an outside bar. There is also an open conservatory near the shared kitchen. This is where breakfast is served and where we ate dinner when we cooked for ourselves. It feels like a home stay really but with lots of privacy. It's a large house that seems to have four bedrooms that can hold 12 people as well as Ricardo and his wife. It feels homely and quiet. Ricardo and his wife Ada were very warm and helpful. It helps if you speak a little Spanish. Ricardo seems to always be somewhere near by if you need any help. He was able to rent us bikes and give us a map of the wineries. He did have some leaflets on activities but we already had companies recommended to us so went rafting with Argentina Rafting and booked our other ones through Alamo Hostel in Mendoza (sunset horse riding and spa). We didn't have any problems with tour groups from Mendoza picking us up either. Chacras is on the way to most places! Ricardo's mum and brother speak a little English so when they came over for a family lunch we had a little chat with them. We felt very comfortable cooking in their kitchen and eating there. Breakfast is very basic - croissant and jam with herbal tea each morning. A little fruit or variety of pastries would have been fab. It's located in the main square which is nice to sit out in with a drink. Very near restaurants, bars, pharmacy and supermarket. Check out Dantesco restaurant if you want a fancy meal for not too much. It's not a buzzing hostel for backpackers but was great for us. Felt like coming home after a day out.
