Hotel Les Portes d'Apcher

A reasonably priced hotel in an elevated position with lovely views and best of all a great restaurant.

The rooms are comfortable, modern and minimalistic but the service and food is excellent. The owner speaks good English, so so worries about making yourself understood. Although, the staff in the restaurant that we encountered tended to speak limited English.

This place is a gem of a place after a long run down from the channel ports.

A 2 Lantern 1 Cooking Pot (Very much underated in our view) Logis at the top of the hill on the edge of the Auvergne village of St Chely D'Apcher. At 1000metres above sea level this privately owned small hotel with 16 rooms is a little gem. We have used this hotel 5/6 times in recent years on our drive through central France and we have never been disappointed. Little English is spoken, and whilst our French is little above old style GCE level we can always make ourselves understood. Staff are friendly, helpful & courteous, the rooms are spotlessly clean and the menu and wine list are very much regionally orientated, but non the worse for that.  An excellent self service continental breakfast is good value.Plenty of uncovered parking available.

It was a functional hotel just off the motorway. Arrived late and left early so a bed was all that was needed. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. Although the front desk shuts at 8pm there was no issue for arrival after 10pm if you call ahead and get a door code. However when I arrived at 10:15pm the bar was still open and the barman checked me in.

Overnight stopover.Quirky in a good way. Loved the restaurant decor. Good well priced menu.Room medium size but OK.Lovely town, beautiful countryside.Not far from the Millau bridge a must see.

Excellent surprise with the diner on a terrasse with a 180 degre view and very well presented meals.

Just off the motorway!  A lovely but not a budget-find :)

Breakfast was fine; the coffee was delish: nice service.  Croissants, jams, that same old juice machine that every hotel in europe seems to have adopted now that gives out sweetie water!  :(
Parking is free outside the hotel and the wifi; included, is nice and strong in the rooms
Plus there's is a lovely view of the valleys... 

Staff are sweet-  especially Marc-Charles on reception.

I appreciated this rest after many hotels were above price or booked out in beautiful St Flour, 5 miles to the north!  An amazing picturesque town.

If on your way- and I was driving to Barcelona- do make a stop in St Flour atop the hill.. then make this hotel your resting stop, to allow time even for a meal in the modern-ambient restaurant which seemed very popular with locals on the Sat eve I stopped.

this was just a night stay to our trip to spain; and was good overall, no elevator, surrounding is great for nature.

i stayed there one night in March 2017. there is a big car park available.
rooms are a bit oldy, but clean. 
the restaurant is very good, and not expensive at all. 
the lady at the restaurant wasn't speaking english at all.
this hotel is a good choice for those who wants to make a stop while driving on A75.

Booked as a stopover driving to Calais from the south...Tripadvisor reviews encouraging ...making the place out to be a bit special. It wasn't. The poor review is not due to the fact that they didn't have the superior room available that we had booked with extra space(I'm tall) and a view. The room we were offered by the lad on the front desk was pretty small with a petite bed and smelt of cigarettes. It was not as big or well laid out as an Ibis...more like a Premiere Classe.
The place is well out of town, has the feel of a student union bar about it and the lobby has a pool table in it. The noise of the motorway is pretty strong and you wouldn't really want to sit out on the terrace. On a plus side the restaurant menu looked interesting and the wine list was decent. We didn't stay so I can't comment on it.
Basically if you want a stopover in the middle of nowhere that's similar to a service station hotel then fine (but you'll pay more). If you want a bit of character and an evening out carry on to St Flour.
