Viva Azteca by Wyndham, A Trademark All Inclusive Resort

Over 20 of us arrived and stayed for a week at the end of May. Overall, everything was fantastic. Checking in was hectic as we arrived 4 hours before check in at 3pm and the kids wanted to swim. They had change rooms in the gym if you wanted. It helps to keep a change of clothes handy. Our group was all placed on the first floor in various buildings. After a few requests, some were moved closer together and onto second floors. This was helpful. The rooms are basic, but everything is functioning. The mini fridge was only filled once during our stay with pop. The showers always had hot water and the washrooms were quite large. The buffet was repetitive, but with good, tasty food. The drinks were quite good, but the liquor was bottom shelf. I would recommend bringing a bottle or 2 of your favourite liquors for your own drinks. One thing, is that although there were “members only” sections and options, we didn’t feel like second class. The beach snack bar was fantastic and we had lunch there many days. We ate at the Italian restaurant twice and the Asian, but the Mayan restaurant was not available multiple times due to private events. Reservations were not allowed, only walk ins, and in small groups. We did manage to secure a group reservation once, with the help of Carolina. The service at the Italian restaurant was great. I do wish the restaurants were air conditioned. We were always hot, but I guess that’s why you come to Mexico. We walked over to the Viva Maya sports bar one night. That resort was bigger, but I don’t think we missed much. The beach was absolutely beautiful and we had no issue getting chairs. Towels were always available. There was a little bit of seaweed, but not enough to keep you out of the water, which was clear blue and warm. The entire staff at the hotel was constantly working to keep the place clean and in working order. Christian and Sergio at the lobby bar always took care of our drinks. Nicholas at the beach bar always knew our drinks as well. We tip for every meal and almost every round of drinks served. I noticed few people doing this. It really goes a long way for the staff. We had one slight issue where two people in our group had their wristbands fall off after only one day. One bracelet was found, but the other was not. Christian, the evening manager helped look after this for us. Keep track of your bracelets as they are also your room keys and you will be charged if you lose it. A few extra things we did that we enjoyed: We arranged for a family photo shoot, we did a trip to Coco Bongos and we did a day trip to Coba to see the ruins, a cenote and a Mayan village-an incredible experience. Great trip. It’s not a 5 star resort, but a small, family oriented place with decent food and entertainment. Manage your expectations and you won’t be disappointed.
