Savoy Hotel

I saw a newspaper article in an Australian newspaper soon after the Savoy had been restored and always thought this where I want to stay if I ever visited Buenos Aires. Then I read a lot of unflattering reviews on Tripadvisor and wondered whether to stay when I finally got to Buenos Aires more than a decade later. I am so glad I stuck with my original choice as I really loved the atmosphere and service at The Savoy. I stayed five nights and found the service to be very good and the location exceptional. Being able to stroll to the Congress, the Obelisk and Plaza de Mayo was ideal. My twin room was well appointed, comfortable and had a juliet balcony overlooking Peron Avenue. The room was spacious but could have done with a chair other than the one provided at the desk. The room had a few dings, but was a lot better maintained than many had put in their reviews. I loved the two-section bathroom I was allocated- one room was for the basin and wardrobe area and the 2nd room for the shower, toilet and bidet. Housekeeping was exceptional, every request was done when I returned to my room. I was lucky enough to view the beautiful suite where Evita lived before her marriage to the President. Breakfast was adequate, but the hot selection was lacking, the staff didn't clear my table between courses and the orange juice was terrible. The dining room features lovely crystal chandeliers and art deco wall decoration. Bar Imperio was a lot better, the hotel's former ballroom is a stunning space to relax and the food is very good, I enjoyed a tasty steak, yummy empanadas and a delicious cheese scone. I loved the historic atmosphere of the Savoy- walking down the amazing staircase into the lobby with its red chandelier was a highlight every morning. I also enjoyed looking at the historic photos in the corridors. Atmosphere, location, history, service, The Savoy Hotel Buenos Aires is now amongst my favourite hotels. Well done!
